Tell me about Swan and Dolphin

My family has been to WDW countless times, yet I've never researched or considered Swan or Dolphin resort. Why? I do not know!! Speak to me like a newbie and tell me what they're all about. Why choose to stay and which? Benefits? Drawbacks?
We love staying on property for many reasons but a main one is proximity and not wanting to rent a car and have to drive on my vacation. I'm perfectly happy with Disney buses (or skyliner) to and from parks even at park close waiting in a long line.

I like the swalphin to start my trip. It’s a Marriott hotel so we usually spend the first night or two there on points. We fly in late and used to stay at the Hyatt at MCO but I found I prefer to go right up Disney. We stay at boardwalk so it’s an easy walk over to check in.

It is a great location with good restaurants. It is not Disney themed (although I do really like their gift shop). You will often see conference attendees walking around. For some the lack of theming and non park goers is a turn off.

Other than theming the other differences that I can think of are you can’t get the dining plan, charge to your room and the drop off for magic kingdom is at the TTC not at the park.

I prefer the swan to the dolphin but have not stayed at the swan reserve.
