Tell me about Space MT

My girls are 10 & 7, and have been working their way up the rides, Goofy's Barnstormer, Test Track, Big Thunder Mt, Splash Mt (still gotta get the youngest on this) and they want to hear about Space MT. I'm not sure if I'll be riding on it with them,hubby may be taking one or both of them, I have problems with motion sickness. I've ridden a couple of other rides with this warning and I've been ok-Star Tours and the Teacups. Anyone else with motion sickness problems ridden? Are the seats really singles, one behind the other? Any big drops?

The thing about Space Mountain that makes it unique from all of the other rides you've mentioned is that you don't see what's coming. Are the drops really big? Not really, but they take you by surprise b/c it's dark and you don't expect them. DW has a real problem with motion sickness, but she's never had a problem on Space Mt. The seats are singles now, with each car containing 3 seats..not sure when they changed from the old ones (probably more than 10 years ago) that used to be either singles or doubles, but each seat has its own harness. Compared to the rides you mentioned, I don't believe Space Mt. is nearly as fast as Test Track and doesn't have nearly as big of a drop as Splash Mountain. Probably most comparable to BTM, except you're blind to what's about to happen.

Space mountain is about as intense as big thunder mountain, only it is in the dark. The rider in the front can see what's coming (turns and drops), which can help with motion sickness.

Space Mtn is a roller coaster in the dark - there are a couple drops and spirals. You can see the tracks and the other cars zooming through the track around you. The ceiling has video of space and meteors, etc. My DD has grown to really like the ride and she was 6 when she first rode it. She called it a "tummy hurter" back then. You do ride single file. DH sits in the back and puts his hands on her shoulders for moral support (not necessary from a safety standpoint) while I sit up front. I think that if they can handle the other rides and don't have issues with being in the dark, they should be ok on this one. I'm not sure about motion sickness as we don't suffer from that. You can take the People Mover ride and get a peek from there and see what you think.

This is my favorite ride. The atmosphere of the ride gives me the care-free feeling that I love about WDW. The temperature in the building feels cool and the experience is refreshing. My 2 DS first rode this at ages 4 and 6, got off chanting "Do it again, do it again." And we have every chance we've had for the past 4 years.

I have to laugh about SM due to the fact that I have been on it twice and not once have I seen the inside beyond the launch stations. I have not been able to keep my eyes open for a single second of it! During one of my rides back in '92 I made the mistake of not paying attention as the safety bar came down and I was sitting with my ankles crossed and from that point on locked in place like that for the whole ride. I could not uncross them and barely had my balance! OHHH...sweet memories.
