I have a friend who was contacted by Silver Lake Resort for a 3-night stay for $298 or a 4-night stay for $398 and two-one day passes to WDW for participating in a 1 hour tour. She opted to take them up on the offer, but is now having second thoughts.

She has never been to WDW, Florida or even on a plane, so she jumped on the thought of a family vacation.....she asked me for my thoughts, but I am really unsure of what to tell her regarding her potential experience at Silver Lake, what to expect from the tour and how high pressure they may be or even if it is a good deal for what it is. Any ideas, experiences or other info would be great to tell her!

Thanks in advance!

$298 huh. last year we got a week in a 2 bedroom for $250. :hyper:
(no passes though)

anyway.....
we did the timeshare thing. just don't act interested!!
make sure they write the start time on your paper, you are only obligated to stay 90 minutes. they will try to convince you to buy, by lowering the price,, OR lower the payments ( Hey can you AFFORD this amount???) < I never asked how many years their payments would last OR what interest rate, since I am sure that would just add more time for the discussion but would have loved to know. :listen: >

remember your time starts after you eat ( we passed on the food, I am not sure if everyone can/does). we had to sit through a movie in their theatre ( 15 min) but there was no golf cart driving you all over. just walking to their gorgeous owner demo's. ( very nice & large,, but sheesh not worth the cost)

just tell them for even the price of their maintenance fees ( which they never ever tell you till you buy) you can rent a house somewhere...

it was a fairly easy ( well compared to some others I have heard of) timeshare presentation.

you said your friend took them up on their offer, so they can't back out correct?? nothing to do but go,, they will survive, just remember the word NO!!

btw, we had thought of doing this again,, but I notice on skyauction for only about $200 ( their fees) you can get a week at several condos, & silver lake is usually a main choice,, so that we will be doing next year.

We did this and unfortunately, we were suckered in! They take you to a room and tell you a million things to talk you into it. They try to find out personal stuff about you to use against you (for us, it was our anniversary the day we did the tour!) and then they show you around! Yes, the ones they 'show' are very nicely decorated. :stir: No golf cart. (one biggie to show them you mean no is to convince them you won't be interested is to tell them you just don't travel much as you can't afford it! Think we had to fill a form out too with info on travelling, just make sure you say you only take one trip a year or something like that) I won't say what we are paying but we did get a really cheap price off ebay to stay there for the week we attended the presentation! Thought it was the way to go for a cheap vacation! Like the pp said, just remember the word no! We were there for like 4 hours!!!!!!! The guy who came over after we said we wanted to know prices was like 'hey, no hard feelings if you want to say no, no problem, you still get your tickets' so I didn't feel like it was high pressure at all! Though some of the things they told us they stretched the truth a little I think! If we had been able to resist, it would have been an awesome vacation! We had an awesome room and my kids loved the pools!

We just booked a week for $166.00 in October through Skyauction without a timeshare tour. There are other ways to stay here without the timeshare tour.

! We were there for like 4 hours!!!!!!! !

4 HOURS!!!!!

we were outta there under the 90 minute time. I looked at my watch when we sat down,,& he said no problem, I wrote down your start time on the paper..... you do not have to stay past 90 minutes.

did you ask questions???????

We do at least one timeshare tour a year. DW and I promise each other we will not be interested...no matter what! The real pressure from these tours is when they tell you that you have to decide right then and there. THEY KNOW THAT IF YOU LEAVE YOU'LL SLEEP ON IT AND DECIDE AGAINST IT. Keep track of the time and don't ask ANY questions. You can make it out very close to the 90 minutes. Good luck and remember. JUST SAY NO!
