Tell me about signing up for Jedi Training Academy

We attended on 1/20/17. We were late leaving our hotel, so we arrived and sat down on the tram at 8:59. I gave my wife the bags and took my son through the entry, we were not selected for additional screening. We walked briskly back to the sign up area. Still managed to get a 2:10 show time. Contrary to popular belief, January apparently is not really a slow time at Disney anymore. When we entered the line, we were all the way back under the canvas tent. No fastpasses were given and I had never heard of that until I saw it above on this thread. Glad he could do it! While in line, the two Storm Troopers came and hassled everyone. That was cool.

We did this on Jan 24. Got there just after 8, family opened park at 8:40, we were in line by 8:45 and done by 9. In fact, we walked by One Man's Dream at 8:58 to go meet Buzz/Woody and do TSMM. No paper FPes, but we got our choice of show which was 3:40 based on my touring plan. However, we ate at Backlot Express (never again, made me violently sick) during the 5:10 show and it was really cool seeing the lightsabers lit up. My little one was contrary, so they buttoned his robe because he kept throwing it off. Thankfully, he actually fought Vader and didn't join him. All 3 of my kids fought Vader. (My little one declared his allegiance to Kylo Ren that night... *shakes head*) One nice touch was that as we were going into the Star Tours line about an hour after their show, the Jedi who had helped my boys waved at them and loudly announced, "These are MY little Jedis!" Mine are in the red shirts and glasses...

I asked my dd about the FPs...she works the JTA. She said that, for some reason, they weren't giving out FPs anymore! She had no idea why. Maybe it's the time of year....who knows with Disney!!! She said she used to like giving them out...it made her feel like she was making everyone a little bit happier.

My daughter is 4.5 and LOVES Star Wars, she really wants to do this but she is incredibly shy so I'm not sure if she will end up doing it. Would you guys recommend still signing her up first thing in the morning and then having her watch a show or watch a show and then sign up?

Sure. I know that my dd has been with some very shy kids! In fact, one little Padawan was terrified. After being robed and instructed by my dd, the little one informed her parents that he wasn't doing the show unless that lady goes with him!!!! So, she did...walked him right to the show area, then waited with him, and then delivered him right to the stage and stood and watched him!!! She said it was probably more magical for her, than for him. But, his parents were very happy!!! I can't say for sure that all the shy kids are going to get that kind of treatment....they should, but who knows. It would probably depend on how crowded it was and how many CMs were working. I believe dd was due to rotate to another spot, possibly her break, when that happened.
I would sign up first, rather than wait. Worst case scenario is that she refuses to go on. Otherwise, if she watches it, really, really wants to do it, then goes to sign up and there are no more slots left!!!

That's really sweet of your DD! I will definitely sign her up first! Thank you so much!

I would have her watch the show on YouTube. This way, you can teach her the moves ahead of time so she feels confident going in.

Just make sure you watch the new version. They changed the routine with the new show (made it simpler).

If the lightsabers extend it is the old show. New show lightsabers don't extend and collapse.

Great idea!! Thank you!

Does anyone know if they are currently allowing sign-ups before a H&V breakfast? Thanks!

Going in 2 weeks just wondering if people still having success signing up for Jedi Training with a PPO at H&V

We had a PPO H&V breakfast at 8:05 AM on 2/7, and we were able to sign up for Jedi Training before breakfast! We were let into the park around 7:45 AM.

We just signed up on 2/7. They let everyone in a little early. I was a bit surprised. I didn't look at the exact time, but we had to wait in a good size line to sign up, no extra FPs were given to us, and it was still a little before 9am when we were done. We got the 11:10am show. We did see one very shy little girl get turned away when she couldn't answer the questions. My boys loved it even though they had to fight Seven sister. I told them what line to sit in but they, like always, ignored me. ;)

I will say that the Castmembers at JTA are great.. my littlest guy was being a class A pain the you-know-what during his round of Jedi training. He has issues with defiance - he can't help it and we are seeking help for him, but he says he doesn't want to do things when he really does. I had already spoken to him quietly ahead of time and knew he really wanted to do the Jedi training and I knew he would be crushed if I let him walk away. The CMs were great in keeping him calm and reminding him he did want to do it. He kept throwing his robe off and they kept putting it back on him. They actually buttoned his so he'd keep it on. It's all he talks about now - he loved it so much! I am glad the CMs had the patience to keep him focused and not let issues he has no control over prevent him from doing something he wanted to do. They offered to let me go up there with him if that's what it took, but between one great CM and me, we were able to distract him and keep his focus changing long enough to get him up there - then it was smooth sailing.

Does EMH affect sign up?

Do they start sign up at 8:00 AM? Or do they start it at 9:00 AM still?

Going with a big group of boys and we plan on utilizing EMH and need to know when we need to get in line .. right away or later in the Magic Hour?
Unfortunately my son (4) .. doesn't want to do it. The though of being in front of "real" Vader scares the dickens out of him.

Any answers on how EMH affects Jedi Training sign up?

I don't know first hand, but I believe somebody earlier in this thread mentioned that sign-ups began at rope drop on EMH days as well. So 8am (or before) on an 8-9 EMH day.
