Tell me about September

I can't believe I'm actually thinking of a Sept. trip, as I hate heat and humidity, BUT... I just got my kids' school schedule for next year, and they have off Sept. 16 and 17 for Rosh Hashanah. I thought this might be the perfect time for a mini trip. We could get the girls out of school early on Wed., get down there Wed. evening and be in the parks Th., Fri., Sat and Sun. If we come back on MOn., they will only miss one day of school!
So, am I wrong in thinking this time of year will be very uncrowded (we will not be on-site)? And more importantly, will we die of the heat? How bad is it in mid-Sept.? We were down there the first week of Oct. this year, is there much difference?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I've never been there in Spetember, but I can't imagine it being too bad.

We weren't at Universal but we went to disney the day after Labor day last year for 5 nights and it was completely empty.
Many times we were the only ones on the buses.

September is one of our favorite times to go because the crowds are lighter. It will still be hot, but the lines should not be long, even without FOTL. Most rides at both IOA and the Studios are air-conditioned, so I don't think the heat should be a factor because you will be inside alot. Besides, the water rides at IOA are a surefire way to cool off in the middle of the day! And at Universal, during the hottest part of the day (or during a thunderstorm) go see the Horror Makeup Show where you can sit and relax in air-conditioned comfort.

The only thing I can think of where the heat might be unbearable is at the Ghostbusters Show because it is an outside show. But my daugher Flyfly and I somehow always manage!

Sept is nice. Crowds are not busy (20 minutes or less = average wait). Weather is still warm, but not June/July/August hot. And as has been said, there's plenty of water areas and air conditioned buildings to relax in.

We were just at UO this past year from 9/11-15. The parks were very empty, particularly on the weekdays, with no more than (10) minute waits on anything (although we had FOTL, so it didn't matter). The weather was wonderful, with absolutely no rain the entire five days. The part I liked best was getting to use the beach pool at PBH almost as if it was our own private pool.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It looks like the pros to Sept. are low crowds and minimal days missed of school. The cons are heat and...I just remembered...love bugs! We can deal with the bugs, it's the heat that will be rough. But all in all it seems like a good plan, I will definitely start obsessing- I mean planning!

MrsMud, we went to Disney last September (the 17th-22nd) and it was hot, but not unbearable. The crowds were low. We walked on to most things. And the only time I noticed any kind of bugs was at night. We were staying at the Contemporary and we went in the pool around 8:00 and it was very buggy. We did have the bug spray with us.

We are also going this September. We will be at Universal/IOA 9/17-9/20 and then on to Disney. I'm also hoping the crowds will be low. I booked the trip even before I knew that the kids would have that Thursday/Friday off for Rosh Hashana. We are staying on-site so at least we'll have the FOTL priveleges.

Just found out we are going back in Sept. YEEE HA!!!

Last summer we went in aug. and it was not too hot. I'm excited, it should be perfect..... light crowds, warm, but not swealtering...... ahhhhh

Thnaks again. Now I'm wondering if we should go down Tues. - Sun. instead ( Wed - Sat. in parks, rather than Th - Sun). Either way the kids would miss one day of school, so does it make any difference crowd -wise? I'm figuring Wed is probably slower than Sun?

Yes, Wednesdays tend to be slower than Sundays.

I'm so exited!! DH and I will be there 9/5 - 9/9/04...hopefully right after all the crowds leave and the kids start school!! Can't wait already!!
