Tell me about selling my stuff online

Trying to make some money but also want to clean out my house. I have random things that I could just throw out or donate but I think I might be able to get something for them.

Is selling online worth the effort? Do you still use ebay? I hear the fees are high. How about craigslist or amazon?

I've sold one or two things about 10 years ago, but everything is different now. Not that I even remember what i did.

Any advice would be appreciated. thanks!!

I use craigslist alot but I guess it all depends on what your selling. I've only sold baby items and since most of our items were perfect condition they sold fast. Just do your research. Go on Criagslist or ebay and search for similiar items than yours, see if they meet your items standards and check out thier rates. I'm not really into ebay but thats also because I don't have time to ship items. Always post pics of your items when you list. I can't stand when people are selling but do not post pics.

I have sold many things on Craigslist in the last year. Most recently I cleaned out my closet and sold the clothes as a lot for $50. I didn't want to have a garage sale and thought I would give Craigslist a shot before donating it all.

I have also sold furniture, books and even a car.

LIke the PP said, do your homework first. And take some clear pics to post too. I won't even look at an ad if it does not have a picture.

I list everything "cash only; price is firm". I err on the low side pricing my items anyway because if I'm listing them I want them to go quickly.

I don't deal with ebay at all any more. Fees and shipping keep my away.

I use craigslist, kijiji and eBay. CL is faster, cheaper and more efficient, just be careful.

EBay is my second job. I've done it since 2003 and literally cannot live without the income... and I've tried!

I have been selling lots of stuff on Cragislist. I usually sell to someone local that can come and pick up. I only accept cash for the items also. So basically it is Cash and Carry.

I do ebay, etsy and sometimes craiglist. For me it depends on if I think i'll make enough back to make it worth my while as it can be a lot of work.

A few years ago, I redid the whole first floor of my home.
I sold old furniture (kitchen and family room), microwave, some big item (but old) kids toys and did it all on craigslist.
Like the pp said, for me, it is cash and carry.
I made enough to purchase 4 non-expiring 10 day hopper passes with 6 plusses. I thought it was definately worth the time.
You are allowed 4 pictures so make sure you use what is given to you for free.
I always set my price reasonable/lower since I just wanted to get rid of the item and not once did anyone ever try to talk me down. They came, got the item, paid and left. I even had a repeat customer with some of my son's toys.

I used to do eBay - and loved it.. Now I won't even buy from there, let alone sell.. The only association I have with eBay now is books through half.com..

DD's DH sells all of his stuff and our stuff on Criagslist.. He takes care of all of it.. Prices are set higher than what we actually want, so we either get exactly what we want (when people ask if we'll take less) or more - and it's in cash.. His biggest sale earlier this year was their 2 jet skis - and the trailer to haul them around on.. He takes care of his stuff to the point that it never looks less than brand new and he got quite a chunk of change for them - $500 more than what he would have accepted..

It's quick, easy, cash, and he also takes care of the "who, what, where, and when" issues so there's no safety concerns..

I really wish that eBay didn't nose dive down to what they are now.. I enjoyed buying and selling there - even though I didn't make as much as I have since we went the CL route.. It was just fun watching the auctions and such.. Oh well.. Nothing that good lasts forever.. Eventually something better than CL will probably come along too..
