Tell Me About RFID keys

I remember reading somewhere here something about RFID keys but I can't find the details now. What exactly do these things do? Is it somehow a type of tracking device that shows where you are in the parks?

What exactly do these things do?

As of now:

They allow you to open your room door by tapping the key against the pad instead of swiping the card or sliding the card into the door.

They allow you to tap your key on a pad for park entry.

Well I didn't even have to tap mine against the pad....just waving it within a half an inch worked well enough to open my door. Personally I like them but I am used to them from DCL cruise ships. I wear my KTTW card in a lanyard and it's so nice not to have to take it out to get into the room!! I just swipe it in front of the door pad and in I go! Easy peasy!!!
