tell me about refurbished ipod

What are the refurbished ipods like? My friend is a single mom and really wants to get her DD one, but is looking for a deal. Are there any negatives to the refurbished? Any difference from a new one, other than price?

I have bought 4 or 5 refubished iPods, both Nanos and Touches, off of Apple's site. The first ones I bought were in 2005 (both Nanos), and they are still working. The touches I bought anywhere from a year to 5 years ago, and they all still work (although the older ones are so old that they can't get iOS updates anymore). No issues here!

Multiple experiences with refurbished items (iPods, apple tv, & iPads) from apple's site. All positive. My sons both chose to buy refurbished iPads from GameStop this summer. I was very nervous b/c they don't offer the same warranty as apple but both are still working w/out any issues.

I wouldn't think twice about buying one from apple. I bought one from cowboom which was used but not refurbished. That's riskier but was cheaper. I believe the refurbished ones have new batteries.

My current iPod Touch was bought as a refurb from Apple a few years ago. It still works great. I also just bought a refurbished iPad mini from Apple last month, and it is just fine. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurb from Apple.

Dd's iPod had issues and we sent it back just under the year warrantee and it was replaced with a refurbished one. 4 years later, no problems at all. Dh and I have refurbished iPad mini's and no problems with them either.

It's practically brand new. One year warranty and new battery. I thought about doing a refurbished mini 2 32gb but got it $50 cheaper new. So if you shop around you might do better. But otherwise it's a great deal. Wish they sold refurbished iPhones.

Thanks for the replies. It is good to hear that it looks new, since Santa doesn't deliver used items, and people have not had problems, or Apple took care of the problem. My friend is grateful for the information. I can always count on The Dis!
