I live in what can be considered Central Coastal a bit inland valley of California.... I know it may seem like an odd description but here we are a bit of everything....

Our agriculture's biggest sellers are strawberries, lettuce, onions, green peppers and garlic. The orchards are apricots, cherries and prunes.. with a few walnut and apple trees scattered in the area too.

Hollister is a big producer for the Salad in the Bag industry.

!So what is among your community's agricultural finest harvest?

I like to know these things when traveling across the country so that I can try out some local products

Hmmmm... how about seafood.......clams especially and of course Boston scrod..

It's not agricultural, but it can cook your agricultural stuff. Stoves are one of the biggest industries. The Roper-GE Corporation is nearby. The 2nd largest industry is BlueBird Buses.

There is a blueberry farm not too far from here.:)

This is farm country. Mainly corn and soybeans.

Pecans,peanuts,peaches,watermelon,Vidalia Onions.
Also...cotton and strangely enough several of the local farmers have switched to growing turf which makes them more money since they get such low prices for food.

Shrimp, oysters and fish from the Gulf; pond-raised catfish, chicken farms

We grow casinos here. Another just sprouted up this year and is getting ready to bloom in July! :teeth:

Say what you want about NJ but we have the best corn and tomatoes on the planet.:teeth:

I'm about an hour NW of Philadelphia. Within an hour's drive you can find large scale (for us anyway) production of corn, tomatoes, apples, peaches, pumpkins & tobacco. There are many, many farms locally that sell at roadside stands - usually corn, tomatoes, broccoli, watermelon, cantelope, string beans, peas, strawberries & anything else they might grow.

I actually live on a farm (rent) & here they grow wheat, feed corn, hay & alfalfa. They also raise ducks, geese & turkeys. They gave up their milk herd a couple years ago.

We also have (within a 15 min drive) a processing plant for turkey & the Hatfield plant for pork products.

Interesting thread Mamajoan!

asparagus and cucumbers -oh and Yankee candles:D

I'm from the same area piratesmate is from and I concur with her. We're real fortunate when it come to living in an area which produces fresh produce! We have tons of places where you can "pick your own name of fruit/vegetable here." I would like to add sunflowers and Byers Choice to the list. Byers Choice are those collectible figurines that you may see around Christmas time. This is an example of what they look like:

Maggie.... I love Byer's Choice.. I have my whole family represented in Byer's for Christmas and collect some of the others... I try not to buy them as they do take up some space, but admit to being addicted........

We live in town but near a rural area where they grow sweet corn, butter beans, peas, yellow squash, watermellons, pecans, peanuts, soybeans, cotton, and the list goes on and on. We have some large industries here too. Flowers Baking Company, owners of Mrs.Smiths Pies (soon to be sold..or already sold) and Natures Own bread along with some other suff that I cant keep up with and Davis Water and Waste...you can figure out what they do :p Theres more but I cant think right now.

Around here it's oranges, cattle, and soon, the NEW HARD ROCK SEMINOLE CASINO & HOTEL! SWEEEEEEEEETTTT!!!! (BTW, the seminole tribe owns a GOOD chunk of hard rock, hence them building there)
