tell me about PORTABLE clothes washers, please.

My mom can no longer climb any steps. So, I think I need to get her a portable for her kitchen. Do these things clean well? Anything I need to know?

I don't know how they work but I am in the process of moving my entire laundry room upstairs! I hate that its down the basement and we have a spare bedroom so I am having plumbing hooked up in there and a gas line run and that will be the new laundry room. It was not a bad price, the plumbing and gas is running around 1000 to do and that is with a hole cut in the wall to outside to vent it.

Are you talking about the little apartment sized ones that hook up to the kitchen sink? I used one for about 10 years while living in my apartment. It was a stackable washer and dryer. It worked just as well as a regular one. You just put in smaller loads than you normally would.

My MIL has a full-size stackable washer/dryer in a closet off their kitchen. It works great. I like the set-up personally, for a small family. You can fold the clothes right on top of the washer, easy. These are not portable but would work too. All she would need would be some plumbing and a space that is wide enough to hold a washing machine.

I also had a stackable portable set for about ten years of apartment living. The washer worked the same as any washer, the dryer took longer to dry clothes as it didn't get as hot as a regular dryer. The load size is reduced on both as well. For a family of three it was inconvenient, for a single person it would work great.
