I have a guarantee for the mansions at POR for Dec 6-10. We are very excited because we have heard nothing but good about the mansions. Can anyone please tell me about the different mansion names and how close they are to the food court etc...? They told me the name of my mansion but I don't remember, I think it was something alley. I could be wrong. If someone would tell me the different names I would recognize it. Thanks!

Hi Gina

We have stayed in the mansions twice. I don't know all the names, but was it Acadia? I think that is one of the ones I have stayed in.

It wasn't very convienient to the food court. You will have to work your way out of the mansion, over the river, through the pool area and then over another bridge. About a 10 minute leisurely walk. The grounds at POR are beautiful! The walk is very enjoyable! I loved the food court here, but I have heard it is a little different now.

I remember our room was hard to find when we arrived. We couldn't find a sign directing us to the rooms. But there is one on the corner of each building at the parking lot end. We didn't see this until the next morning after we walked around the building in the dark.

The mansions are beautiful. Full, sweeping staircases, just like a southern mansion. Some of the courtyards have water fountains. One of them has a rose garden with benches, great for your morning coffee.

The rooms are a good size. 2 double beds, double sink, not much drawer space. Safe, iron & board are standard. The tub was neat, at the end of the tub, there is a shelf that you could actually sit on if you wanted. Great for holding all your tolietries.

We have never used the buses, we always drive. But there are bus stations throughout the property.

Definately check out Piano Bob in the lounge one evening. Pure disney entertainment!!!

You can also take a boat to DTD. Great alternative to buses.

This is my absolute favorite moderate!

Take sometime to stroll the grounds in the early morning. So peaceful!

Have a magical time!

Thanks for the info cc! We are very excited. Although, Arcadia does not sound familiar. Hopefully we are in a closer mansion, no matter, I am sure it will be fine. I know we are poolside to one of the private pools, ground floor.

Thanks. Anyone else with names of the mansions?

The names of the mansions are Acadian House, Magnolia Terrace, Oak Manor and Parterre Place. When we were there in August, we were in Magnolia Terrace and loved it. The walk to the food court was pretty and peaceful and there are birds, bunnies and frogs to see along the way. My husband almost jumped out of his skin when a bunny startled him in the bushes.

I was just looking at the map in the PassPorter, and it looks like all the mansions are about the same walking distance from the main building, so whichever mansion you are in, I'm sure you'll love it. They are definately closer than some of the Alligator Bayou buildings.

We never had any problem with the bus service - there was a stop just outside our building. This is an absolutely beautiful resort, I hope you enjoy your stay.

How did you get a guarantee for a POR mansion in December? That is when we are going as well.... I was told that they would note the request, but they could not guarantee it. I was also told that the room assignments are not made until 3 days before the arrival . Was I misinformed???

If you hop over to www.wdwig.com and look under accomodations you can find room photos and a map of the resort. It even shows which bridges cross over the Sassagoula River between the mansions and the main building. We stayed at Magnolia Terrace and thought it was ideal.

We loved this building. The walk to the bus stop and/or food court was about 7 to 10 minutes but it was a beautiful walk down the river and over a bridge. We even videotaped our walk because we loved it. The fountains in front of our building were lovely and I really loved the way they were lit up at nighttime. Coming back after a long day at the parks hearing those fountains - how soothing.

We stayed in Parterre Place too and loved it. I had originally requested Magnolia Terrace, but that wasn't available when we checked in. But I ended up being glad about Parterre because I think it was faster to the main building. Magnolia Terrace was closer to the theme pool - but it was closed while we were there, so it didn't matter.

The mansions go in this order ...
Parterre Place, Oak Manner, Magnolia Terrace and Acadian house.

Also remember that Oak Manor is also a smoking building, if that matters to you.

They probably said you would be in the Magnolia Bend section which incompasses the four mansion buildings. This is our favorite moderate resort. We always request the MB section in particular Parterre Place & Oak Manor because they are so close to the main bldg. The grounds are beautiful, boat to DTD great and the foodcourt & Boatrwrights are some of our favorites.
Definitely suggest getting the resort refill mug.

I am sure you will enjoy this resort. I have family visiting in Dec and had my choice of moderates and they will be staying at POR.

I stayed in OakManor and loved the location, it was close to the bridge to the main pool and close the other bridge that lead to the main building where the food court and restaurant was located. I was close to east bus depot which was behind the Magnolia Terrace Mansion. I had the option of using the east depot or the main depot.
Part of Oak Manor is smoking, I was on the first floor in one of the wings and this was non-smoking.
Parterre was the next building over and that Mansion would be the closest to the bridge that leads to the main building.
.
I loved the resort it is beautiful, we will be staying there next June, unless it is undergoing rehab.

I avoided the Mansion Homes on my first 7 trips. I had stayed at POR in Alligator Bayou in 1997 and I loved it but the architecture of Manion Homes was not really of interest to me so in the mean time I stayed at many, many other places and all of the morderates. This May I booked POR again and requested the Mansion Homes just to see what it was like. I ended up loving it. It feels more like you have gone back in time and are at a specific place than any of the other places. It really feels like you are staying in someones southern mansion estate. I was in Parterre Place. I didn't request it but I did know from driving by, on previous trips, that I like that one the best. I had a view of the garden courtyard, fountain and river. It was an easy 3-4 minute walk to the food court and the pool was only a minute or so away.

Annie:

I am not quite sure how we were guaranteed the mansions. We are very frequent WDW guests and I myself have been 27 times and I am 26 years old. I am sure that has nothing to do with it, but who knows. I know there are many frequent guests out there. We were originally booked for CBR and decided to change. Afterall, my refillable mug I already have is for POR. We have never stayed in the mansions, we always stayed in the French Quarter and loved it. When I called about the mansions the guy said they weren't that booked for December and he could guarantee me a room in the mansions pool side. And I even called back a few times just to make sure it wasn't him just saying that. They do have on my reservation POR Mansions, poolside. We made it very clear we DID NOT want to stay in Alligator Bayou. I don't know if this helps!

Thanks everyone for the info! I am ready to go now! 31 days and counting!

We stayed in Magnolia Terrace. We loved it! I suggest requesting a corner room so that you can have two windows. The rooms looks prettier with the extra foo-foo curtains! The mansion section is kind of far from the main building, but the grounds beautiful. I didn't mind the walk at all, and I'm pretty lazy :) POR is the best moderate!

We are booked for POR in December also but could not be guaranteed a Mansion room. They put it as a request but would not guarantee it. I sure do hope we get a Mansion room.

I've stayed in each of the 4 Mansions, and I liked Magnolia Terrace the best. I'd read that Parterre Place was closest to the main building, and maybe because I expected to note an appreciable difference, it didn't seem closer. Like others, I love the walk through the pool area from Magnolia Terrace. Also, that Gazebo near the river is beautiful!
