Tell me about POP, please

We have been three times and stayed at the Poly each time. While the Poly is beautiful and we all really enjoy it we are thinking about trying the Pop Century this year, the first week of Aug. We know they will be greatly different but what can we look forward to? How is the bus transportation?

Thanks,
Mis

We have stayed at the Poly as well as several other resorts at WDW, and we have stayed 3 times at POP. In fact, we will be visiting again in April. Our sons, 11 & 8, prefer the POP. It is quite different from the Poly, but is quite cheaper. In our opinion, POP has some of the best bus service at WDW. The bus stops at the parks are usually a little further walk. Pop seems to be more centrally located than a lot of the resorts, so it is not far to any of the parks.

We really did enjoy POP in December 2007. POP has an added bonus that the other value resorts do not... they have their own buses to and from the parks. This way, you go straight from POP to the parks instead of stopping at other resorts to pick up passengers. It makes for a much quicker hop around to places.

The food court was decent- a lot of choices- the pools were large and the grounds were well maintained while we visited.

Only thing I would be sure to do would be to get a "preferred room" so that you can minimize the walking after the long day at the park- our 'standard' room was a good walk from the bus each night with our exhausted children!

We just returned from Pop from an early February trip (our first to WDW) and we loved Pop (we have a 4 1/2 year old daugther). Check in was easy, we got all of our room requests (50's bldg, top floor, lake view...a quiet room), bus transportation was quick & easy, mousekeeping was great. We couldn't have been happier really.

I am a light sleeper, therefore I did not want to be in a room on the ground floor, near the pools or near early bird gathering areas, the the 50's building is a little farther away from the main hall where the food & buses are, but we didn't mind. It's a pretty walk in the mornings. Oh, I also slept with ear plugs because yes, the walls are thin and you can hear the occassional toilet flush (and hubby sometimes snores :). Earplugs meant good night sleep for Mom :)

The bowling pin pool was fun for our daugther and the laundry room was right by the pool so I could do laundry while she/we swam ($2/load per wash/dry).

There are times when the food court is a mad house (730-9:30 AM and then after 9:00 PM), but the food was good. Plenty of variety (for the adults anyway. Kids could use more than chicken nuggets & pizza) and we never had trouble finding a table to eat. The refillable mugs are worth every penny.

We NEVER waited more than 10 minutes for a bus (to and from the parks) and my only gripe is that at EVERY park, Pop's buses are the farthest away. But, Pop doesn't share buses, so I'll take that anyday.

I say go for it. We are glad we did. We didn't spend a whole lot of time at the resort because we parked it a lot, but next time we plan to leave time to just hang out at the pool and relax some.

Hope you have a great time!

we stayed at pop last august..we really liked it a lot. The mousekeeping was good and what ever questions we had they had answers. I would recommend it!
