I have heard photopass mentioned a bunch of times recently but I'm not exactly sure how it works, what it costs, what you get, where you subscribe/purchase ... I would appreciate the help!
Around the parks you'll find photographers. They are typically near characters or great photo op's (in front of the castle, near the sun plaza in DCA, etc). The first time you have a photo taken they'll give you a little card with a barcode on it. From then on you give that card to any photographer that takes your pic. They scan it and link all your photos together. You can have more then one card in case your party splits up.
You can either go to the photo shop on main street or log on to their website to make a purchase. There are many options- either everything on a CD, or individual pics. YOu can also download your own photos and have a book made. See prices and options at http://www.disneyphotopass.com/
Our experience was that you need to approach the photographers. They will look at you, make eye contact, etc, and will not ask to take your picture unless you ask. I was suprised. I expected them to offer everytime we walk past. We only had 2 sets of pic's on our card when we got home. I think it was a total of 6 (4 from one stop with Mickey and Minnie and 2 in front of the castle at night). We found that they dont really take great pictures. Many of ours were not straight or centered and they didnt always wait for us to pose or the kids to smile.
Its somewhat new. I think maybe since the first of the year or so, maybe last fall.
One more thing I should have added- you can not add ride photos to the card (for example Splash mt). You can also not add the photos taken with Ariel at the Princess meal.
I'm certainly grateful for this info, they would have handed me that card and I would have been "What's this?" LOL Seems like it will save me a lot of time too, we'd stand in line for quite a while at the photo shop on Main Street waiting to get our pictures.
Do you get a new card every day, or can you use it for the whole trip?
Does anyone know what the average amount of pictures taken by the photopass people of you are per day? I'll only be there for 2 days... and I'm just wondering how many pictures I can rack up in such a short time span..
Also, are they willing to take candid shots of you like laughing or walking down main street as opposed to just posed shots with characters? I'm tempted to grab one of the photographers and say "hey you.. follow me throughout the day"
ok I'm joking.... sort of....
This is really cool. I cannot wait to take advantage of this service on my next trip! Now I can compare all my photos from my trip and not have to worry about buying one and then have one i like more the following day. Good idea by Disney!!!
We were there for 3 days in April and asked every single photographer we saw to take pics of us. They each usually took 2 or 3 and we only ended up with 30 or so (6 of these were from the Meet and Greet), only a small handful of those were good. I really like photopass, but you have to be pretty active to get a lot of good shots.
I've heard that you can ask them to take a "tinkerbell" shot with your hand out and Tink will be added later.
I have not been to DL yet this year, but i already love photopass. After a friend of mine told me about the website, i went on, uploaded all my Disneyland Vacation pictures since 2001 and made one big photo album. It cost about $100 because of all the pages, but it is so worth it. I tried to scrapbook my trips myself, but this came out way better and saved me a lot of time with scissors. =)
We haven't used it at DL yet but in DW last fall I really enjoyed the service. With just two adults it was nice to have someone take our picture and not have to stand in line at the photo shop at the end of the day. Being able to see the photos online after you are home and rested really helps you pick the best pics. I always feel rushed purchasing photos at DL photo store. I think the quality obviously depends on who takes the photos. We had one lady in DW that really took her time and got some unique shots for us. I am hoping we get a few good shots in DL this July...but of course I will take my own just in case.
Just returned from Disneyland and I LOVE photopass. I'm the photographer in the family and so I wasn't in very many pictures.
The photographers are all over both parks and will do candids (Tinkerbell in your hand in front of the castle) or fun things (Funny faces, jumping up, crazy poses). Just ask them and they will use your camera and give great suggestions. I just downloaded mine - I didn't have to wait in line at the Photo Shop on the corner and you can crop, add borders, make books and all sorts of things. Check out the website at www.disneyphotopass.com and see the fun you can have at home
