Tell me about Ohana's and Kona

Already we're trying to plan very kid friendly meals. We love Epcot restaurants but our DS5 and DD3.5 have a much better time at WCC style places.

What are Ohanas and Kona like for kids? I'm looking for non-character info.

As an aside, are there other really kid oriented resort restaurants we should check out?

I haven't been to either, but I know Ohana's has the coconut races and hula dances if you are talking about dinner. If you mean breakfast, they do a dance with moracca's around the restaraunt. Chef Mickeys is a blast. THey do a napkin waving party. Grand Floridian has 1900 park fare that you dd would like in the evening with Cindy, Prince Charming and the mice. Breakfast has different characters. Hope this helps some. Someone else with more knowledge can give more info.

We went to Kona on our last trip with our almost 4 year old. He really liked the food. There are no games or anything but the atmosphere is open and somewhat noisy so we did not worry about him making a little noise. Also when he got a little restless my husband took him to look down at the water feature in the ceremonial house steps away. Also if you are on the dinning plan this was a really great place. They let our son have a smoothie as his drink and since there was no appetizer for kids he got an adult one, we ordered a salad extra for someone else at our table. Also he got the kid cone for dessert. TONS of sugar but hey it is vacation. It is an Icecream cone that has been fixed to the plate upright with some chocolate and fosting or something. I then has candies sprinkled over it --M&Ms I think and then pieces of cotton candy around it on the plate. Your 5 year olds eyes will be as big as the moon. Have a great time. Oh yeah the adult food was fantastic at Kona.

Oh yeah you asked about other kid friendly options. Biergaten is great. Famlily friendly atmosphere, a polka band and dancing. Great food. Tons to choose from. The only non-friendly thing would be a beer tap for Octoberfest celebration (its Octoberfest everynight) if beer is a questionable topic for your family. We did not have a problem with it. Also we love Crystal Palace breakfast with Pooh, but that is a character thing. We love the food and its location.

We have eaten in both Kona (for breakfast many times..yummy!) & at Ohana for both breakfast & dinner. Both are fine for young ones. As mentioned above there are games & races for the kids at Ohana's dinner. Kona has a kiddie cone for dessert at dinnertime that my kids love. Its a regular waffle ice cream cone that "magically" stands on the plate by itself..ok, it "glued" there with some chocolate & cotton candy around to hid the chocolate glue.
Both excellent choices & tasty.

Great thread. We plan on eating dinner at Konas for the 1st time this trip. We always do breakfast ~ Tonga Toast!! but never tried dinner. We're looking forward to it.

Ohanna's is a great family place. Lots of fun activities and games for the kids. Good food. A great place. The 1st time we were right near the window with a castle view. The 2nd time we were off in a corner and kind of felt left out. However we still had a great meal and DD loved the games, coconut races, hula hoop contests, parades, hula dancing, limbo etc... Lots of fun.

We have ate a Kona's before. Good food nice place. Not anti kids, but nothing specail for them. (any more then any normal sit down place at WDW.)

My 4 year old DGD loved Ohanas. She enjoyed the coconut races, even though she could not keep up with older kids. The marracchas (sp) were fun, and she enjoyed the Parade atmosphere. She also liked the food there, and said that the pork and sausage were "the best"

If your kids like a fun atmosphere, Ohanas is a good idea. We took my little sisters there and they loved doing the hula hoop contests, coconut races, etc. There are a lot of fun activities for the kids. Even the adults did some hula dancing (the kids got a kick out of that!).

Kona has very good food IMO, but there are no kid oriented activities there or anything like that. WIth kids I would recommend Ohanas for sure.

Kona and Ohana are 2 of our favourites. Ohana is very kid friendly with the games and songs. Kona is pretty relaxed too. They have a neat kid dessert which is cotton candy inside a waffle cone.
