popcorn:: My family watched the DVC DVD today :rotfl2: again and it got us thinking about possibly taking a trip in October 2010 even though we said no Disney until 2011. Anyway, we are thinking about some time at the THV and then some time at the BCV. I read about the Race for the Taste as well; sounds kinda fun (DH is a triathlete). We would be traveling with one or two more families of 5 each so 15 people total. pixiedust:

Insights on pros/cons in October would be much appreciated. :flower3: Hints, tips, etc. too!

:thanks:

Cooler weather fewer children food and wine fest

I am signing up for the race this October. DVC gets a discount on registration.

My favorite time to go adults only.

In addition to the pros Liferbabe mentioned, MNSSHP is running at MK.
On the down side it is still hurricane season - that season runs from June until the end of November, with the highest risk being in Aug and Sept. In 2004 when we arrived in early October, it was just one day after the third of the hurricanes that hit central FL that year. That was an experience I hope not to repeat. While we had little or no crowds, crystal clear blue skies and great warm to hot temps, the damage from the hurricanes was horrendous. FW was a shambles, the Treehouses were wrecked, entire groves of palm trees were snapped in half, not to mention the unfortunate CMs whose homes had been damaged and were at work, some on the edge of complete exhaustion. VB had extensive damage too.

Last year we went in late Oct. There were some VERY chilly temps, colder by far than when we were there end of Dec 06/early Jan 07, but overall a great trip. This year we are going at the beginning of October in order to squeeze in another trip on our APs and to be there for my birthday :cool1:
We're hoping to avoid the hurricanes this time pixiedust:.

Sending some pixiedust: your way for no hurricanes and mellow weather. That makes me sad to think of all the damage!

We are thinking about early October. This year the Race is on Sunday 10/11 so my guess is it will be around the same time next year. Our first trip was in September 2007 (peak hurricane season) and other than one day of insane rain, it was really nice and hot and humid. ;)

Keep them coming! :flower3:

We've been to WDW many times during October. So far, we've been fortunate to avoid hurricanes.

It's our favorite time of year to go and in fact, we're planning to go October 2010. We love Food and Wine. Also love MNSSHP. We're in our late 40's/early 50's and yes, we do dress up. Halloween at Disney is awesome. DVC members get discounts on certain dates.

The other nice part is that typically Disney's free dining ends late September (maybe a couple days in October). The DVC points aren't much different between September and October, so going in October avoids some of the dining reservation craziness (not completely, but better than it would be in Sept).

Also, cooler than summer, but warmer than December. Much more comfortable both in the parks and able to use the pools.

I completely forgot about MNSSHP. :woohoo: We will dress up too! October sounds perfect all around. I have read nothing but good things about the Food and Wine Festival. And cooler than May or Sept (both times we've gone) sounds awesome! :cloud9:

How about crowds? I would think it wouldn't be too crowded as kids are in school except mine because I allow them to miss for Disney? :rolleyes1

I'll be down this October, just booked yesterday! DH says it's a B-day present for me. Isn't he great . Get to check out F&W.

As for less kids, I help out at our elementary school and every year there are at least a couple of kids in the class that are out due to WDW trip in October.
The MNSSHP is scheduled twice when I'll be down.

We usually go every October. Late October (MNSSHP) , and the first week of Dec. (all the Xmas decorations are up) are my favorites!

Food & Wine Festival in EPCOT, and I found MK not to be too busy.

HOT HOT HOT though. I was there last October and it was close to 100 and very high humidity!:scared1:
Hence, I scheduled Nov. this year!

I will be there Oct 11th to 15th this year! I will post a TR when were are there. It will be our first trip home! Hoping our BLT 2br WL comes through!

What an awesome birthday present!!! :wizard: Are you doing the MNSSHP?

Christmas is another time I would really like to go. I am a sucker for holiday lights. :cloud9:

Food & Wine is awesome! It can be hard to get into BCV at 7 months.

One of the families we are traveling with own at BCV so they will stay with us at the THV the first half and we will stay with them the second at BCV. :thumbsup2

Smart! This May was a boiler too when I had read it was supposed to be semi-cool for FL anyway.

 Can't wait to read all about it!!!!

We went in mid-October last year and it was a bit too hot for us so I backed us up a week this year. We're going the 22nd-27th. Hoping for great weather! We're also going for the F&W festival and MNSSHP. Love both of them!

We also go in early December for the decorations and MVMCP. The weather can be tricky then, either hot or cold. We just bring clothes for all weather and we're okay.

No MNSSHP for me, I'm going to go mainly for F&W, relax and do things I want to do. Like skip the Muppet 3-D movie.

So jealous! Have a magical trip! pixiedust: I have already been thinking about costumes for next year's MNSSHP.

I bet the decorations are unreal! I have been to Disneyland during the holidays and it was pure magic!!! :lovestruc

 Sounds like the perfect trip!!!! :thumbsup2

October is warm! Don't think of any costumes that might be hot! The average daily temp is still 85! That's warmer than it is this summer in New England (except for two random days in the 90's). I don't think WDW cools down until November, so build your costumes around tshirts! :thumbsup2

:thanks: Great advice! Our costumes will be perfect for warm weather! :cool2:
