So last time we went in Oct is was several years ago and I didn't plan the trip....I tagged along.

I am looking at resorts now, hoping to get either military discount or FL resident. I know how both work considering how many time I made my husband go in the last few years and called and called and called to get what I want.

I am wondering if what I am seeing on the general list is really whats left or is there something I am missing for later on?

It's Food & Wine at Epcot, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween parties at the MK, Pandora will probably still be busy at AK. Plus Columbus Day holiday weekend.

I get that. I am just wondering if something will open up later on or that what I am literally seeing right now is what is available? I think almost everything standard is not available. That is why I am wondering.

There is Food and Wine, MNSSHP and 2 moderate resorts undergoing renovations so what is there may be what's left. Not to mention the Gartner Synposium is usually in October at YC/BC. Also YC is having renovations but I don't know their status. The YC thread on the DISboard should have that info.
If as rumored Disney announces the free dining for the fall next week things may open up .

The first week is also Gartner IT, which uses a lot of the Standard level rooms at the Deluxe resorts. Gartner is really huge. They stay at Contemporary, GF and Poly, not just Epcot. It's the first week of October this year.

Thanks. This is good info as I am trying to find a good deal to understand what is really going on.

We're going the third week in October (16th - 21St). Hoping its not to crowded. We always go in March but its getting to crowded. Hoping for good weather and low crowds.

Your better odds are good weather not low crowds, based on my week last year. October is not low season any more. Too many schools with fall breaks, Food & Wine and MNSSHP keep the crowds coming.

Three out of four recent trips of mine the last four years were in October. First year (first week of October) was great, with low crowds except at Epcot on weekends. Next trip, middle of October, fell into the 'fall break' calendar for colleges nationwide...and crowds were not so great, even during the week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Next trip, later in October (over Halloween), so we were outside of the major college fall break calendar...crowds during the week were ok (not as good as just a few years before), crowds that weekend were very very high.

After those three trips, we realized that October wasn't 'low season' anymore and have adjusted our schedule. In 2016, we went to WDW in early Dec...and the crowds were fairly low PLUS weather was fantastic. This summer, due to various school schedules, we're going the last week of August, which is historically one of the lightest times of the year for crowds (if not for heat).

So...given October's increasing popularity added to construction at at least four resorts (YC, CBR, CSR, POP) taking rooms out of circulation added again to the fact that WDW doesn't hold rooms for future discounts if they can sell those rooms at higher rack rates...it's very likely that what you see available for October now is what you'll get later.

We will be there 10/16-10/22. I'm worried about crowds too. We usually do May, Jan, or Sept. This is making me nervous.

It will be busy. It is not Holiday crowds, but it is NOT low crowd season. Think summer.
As others have stated, lots of states now have Fall breaks for the schools, not just colleges.
Food & Wine and MNSSHP bring in the crowds

Ok. Deep breaths. Crowd calendar park recommendations, rope drop, a good plan, and reasonable expectations. I will be fine. I just need to keep reminding myself of that, lol.

We had a great trip, and the crowds were not low. We had plans and expectations, though. MK will be very busy on non-party nights. Epcot will be busy at night and on weekends (and some during the day, honestly). DHS was packed any night the Star Wars show was up.

AK is a wild card this year.
