Maybe heading to Ocean City, NJ for a long weekend. Tell me about it - what is there to do besides the beach, any suggestions for some good restaurants/shopping. Will be DH & our 2 girls 3 & 13.

Thanks,

Not sure when you're planning on going but they have two ride and game area on the boardwalk.

Mack n Manco pizza is the best. The boardwalk is very family friendly and remember the town is DRY,,,so no eateries will have alcohol on the island. Just outside OC is Sommers Point, The Crab Trap is pretty popular and we've been to Gregory's as well. Both OK, but we rent a house for the week, so we eat in usually.

We did a couple long weekends too and really enjoyed it. Its like a step back in time with the surrey bikes on the boardwalk, no alcohol and *pins* for beach admittance. Maybe those are gone now but they were there a couple years ago.

Love Mack's pizza too, and there's another seafood place but the name escapes me.

Would go again but really, its kinda pricey for not alot to do in the area, as compared to Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach (yes, I realize those are in SC and Ocean City is NJ ;) )

We love Ocean City, and have been going there for many years now.

Lots of really interesting little places to eat, such as the Crab Trap and the Varsity Inn. There are a lot of little ice cream/sandwich places, such as Johnny B. Goodes and Kessel's Korner. No alcohol, as it's a dry town, so you'd have to travel a short distance to a neighboring shore town to get a drink.

If you have kids, there are two main piers with rides on the boardwalk. One of them, Castaway Cove, will be selling their ride tickets for 50% off in the next few weeks. The link is www.boardwalkfun.com

Your kids are at the perfect ages too! The rides for the little ones are fun, ok for older kids. (We did Gillian's.) Miniature golf is fun, lots and lots of little shops on the boardwalk, your 13yo will love them if she likes to shop, make up your own t-shirts. Lots of ice cream, treats and food and yes, Mack n Manco's pizza is the best, although there is a good food court down a little from it with everything you could want that is good.

We did Gillian's Island Water Park too. They have a GREAT play area for little ones, the rest was just ok, I'm spoiled with Great Wolf Lodge, etc. It was a little pricey but my kids love pools more than they love beaches, so for them they loved the break from the sand and ocean water with the fresh water.

The actual beach itself can get crowded depending on when you go, but it is nice and stays family friendly.

Have fun!

I can tell you I graduated from O.C.H.S!! Go Red Raiders!!

Ain't that the truth!!! You've GOTTA go there!!

OCNJ is a slice of heaven. Lots to do, the beaches and boardwalk are must-do's. We like to eat at a restaurant over the Strathmere bridge that has a great sunset view and outdoor dining, the Deauville Inn. It's outside of OC by a few miles so they serve wine and beer.

Sac o subs on Asbury Ave has the BEST hoagies!

I'm not a big fan of Mack and Manco's but the lines is always out the door!

Johnson's Popcorn is also delicious!

Thanks everyone - getting excited about going now. Not sure when we will be going - we are trying for a long weekend either in July or Aug.

Another reason to go....Bob's Lemonade and funnel cake...

Can't wait for the season to start!!!!

If you're staying in a hotel, my personal favorite is the Beach Club, or any of the properties they own depending on your budget.

I know the Port-O-Call is nice and I've never been but I've heard good things about Biscayne Suites. I think I spelled that right.
