Tell me about Mickey's Fun Wheel..

I know I'm going to do non-swinging. Even though I'm usually afraid of heights, I LOVE ferris wheels. I find them incredibly peaceful. I want to keep it that way. :)

My older girls love it, but in a love to be scared sort of way. My 6 year old LOVES it- he won't do other rides like Space Mountain or Splash Mountain, but he loves the swinging cars! I also think it is pretty fun- terrifying, but fun! My husband prefers not to ride ;)

I spent an entire ride in a swinging car trying to talk my sister out of puking. Luckily she didn't, but it was close. I decided to try it again without her. Big mistake. I didn't pay attention to the ride when I was with her, but the second time I felt like losing it. Now I only do the stationary cars. It's a gentle ride and I love the view. I even took my dad up there when he was 86. He loved it too!

The swinging ones were petrifying the first time I rode it! I think the biggest thing for me is there is nothing to hold onto. I have ridden it since and it wasn't as bad as the first time, but it's not something I really want to go on again and I love rides!

the first time we rode it, we did the swinging cars. i never get motion sickness and can do any other ride in the parks with no problem, but as soon as we started moving and sliding and rocking back and forth, i thought i was going to be sick. once the ride was finally over i had to take a break to let my stomach settle down. the stationary cars are fine.

Oh my goodness, the swinging carriage has to be the scariest ride in all the Disney parks. I went on it, and the first time around with it stopping and starting as people got on and off was fine. And if that had been it - and I thought it was - I would be wondering what the fuss was.

But then we did a full loop non stop. I had thought we were getting off. I had thought that was it. But it wasn't. It was MICKEYS WHEEL OF DEATH.

I thought I was going to die.

The teens I was with were in hysterics at my reaction. I might have sworn a little ...

I only do swinging. I hate the wait for this ride.

Right? I heard so many bad things about this ride on the DIS that I was shocked to see anyone else in line waiting for it! I was also really surprised that it was busy enough they put us in a car with 2 strangers. Not a fan of that, but thankfully the other times we rode we were by ourselves.

The funny part is that I'm not a big amusement park ride daredevil. I don't do the biggest coasters, although I do all the Disney ones. It took me years to work up the courage to do ToT (which I now love). But the swinging gondolas just didn't seem as bad as all the hype. But I see after reading this thread that it's definitely a YMMV situation.

I appreciate all the opinions. I think I will take the easier way here. This reminds me a little of the first time I did Mission Space in Epcot. When it first opened, there was no non-spinning Green side, only the more intense, spinning Orange side. We (DH and two sons) all did it, and none of us felt well after at all. I was sick as a dog. I do like the less intense Green side, so I think stationary cars for me on the Fun Wheel. Less out of fear of the ride, than fear of getting sick. I only have two days at DL and don't want to waste one feeling nauseous.

Very, very smart!

By the time we get to this ride, we only get one go-around on the wheel.

If you go first thing, might the CMs let you stay on for multiple trips? My son would love that.

I made a deal with my kids. They ride ToT and Screamin and I'll get on the swinging gondolas. We enter the cage and I chuckle, "look a barf bag". I got to use said bag and my DD (who has a puke phobia) screamed the entire time. Never. Again. LOL

There is usually always a line, so it would be rare to get to stay on for a second trip. I have only ever been on the non swinging side, and still find it scary. I have never ridden the swinging side. I will have to build up the courage, and take my daughter. She is fearless!

My family spent years avoiding the swinging cars, but decided to try them on our last visit. The only real reaction was one of "that's what we've been avoiding all of these years?"

That being said, we spent so many years referring to it as Mickey's Fun Wheel OF DEATH, that the nickname is going to stick, even though it's more like Mickey's Fun Wheel of Meh.

Now if you want to talk about a ride that I can't eat before I go on, let's talk about the Teacups OF DEATH...

I'm really fortunate not to get motion sickness. Our reaction to the swinging cars was the same as yours. I'm looking forward to doing them again next month!

My brother forced his 6yos on TOT when they did NOT like it. So when they wanted to ride the Wheel of Death, I made him ride, and we got in the swinging ones. His first comment when it swung just a little was "SIT STILL..." His boys loved it, so I just made sure is swung ALOT. He never made the boys do a ride after that. Oh, and I am the much older (20 years) sister, so he just had to deal with it....

Terrifying! I don't get sick, just scared. I love Screamin, Space, Big Thunder, but not these swinging cages. I think as someone stated earlier, it's the lack of something to hold on to or seatbelt or bar or anything. Just a bench. Never again! My ds4 loved it.

For me it's the lack of knowing which way the darned car is going to swing next. At least with (most) coasters you can see the track. You have no idea what's going to happen next on the Wheel of Death.

This cracks me up. I finally coaxed my husband into riding the non-swinging ones on our first trip in Feb 2015. We now refer to it as Mickey's Fun Wheel....(dramatic pause)....OF DEATH. We go again in a couple of weeks and I'd love to ride the swinging ones, but I highly doubt he'll go on with me.

The stationary ones are just a big ferris wheel. If your really afraid of heights it may be an issue as you go really high (much higher then the swinging ones since you end up at the very top on the outside where the swinging ones swing down more towards the middle).

However the swinging ones SCARED me. It didn't help that the ride malfunctioned so I didn't get let off when I should have and had to go around again and it went backwards a bit a few times that made the swining even worse. I hated it more then any other ride I have done.
