we have always gone to St John when docked in St Thomas. Never been to Magans Bay but heard it's beautiful.Should we book it through the ship or go on our own ? How much are the chairs and umbrellas ?
Are there restaurants and bars ? Clean bathrooms ? My Granddaughter doesn't like the iguanas ! Do you see them there ?

We went on our own and had no problem. We walked off the ship, asked where we could get a cab, walked a couple blocks, got in a van and were off to Magen's Bay. We were the first people at the beach and had our choice of spots. Seems like rentals were somewhere between 10 -20 dollars. Can't remember exactly. There were souvenir shops and food. We didn't see iguanas, just little lizards. It was a nice day :)

We have been twice, both with DCL excursion. It's a lovely beach with a nice little bar for drinks and food. Don't remember the bathroom so assume it was fine! Never seen any iguanas there (shame as our son loves them)! Never been on our own so don't know prices, but I expect it would be easy to do on your own. Will probably go back again if we get the chance.

We did it thru DCL in November 2014 on the Fantasy.
I have to tell you it was chaos, there were people grabbing chairs like lunatics when we got there. I mean these were co-cruisers all on the same ship , I was so disappointed. The area roped off for DCL was so crammed.
We looked down the beach were people were sitting that came on their own and it was calm and peaceful, the chairs were spread out nicely.
If I ever go back I will grab a cab and go on mine own. We are people who try to do DCL excursions exclusively for the peace of mind, but I wouldn't do it there again.

We went there on a DCL excursion. The plus to that is that the chairs are included and already set up. If you go on your own you have to drag them from the rental place to the beach and then back. You can also rent floats, paddle boards, etc.

Bathrooms were basic but clean. There is a bar/grill there that sells burgers, fries, etc. Nothing spectacular, but we found the portions to be large enough to share.

The water was clear and you could walk fairly fair out without it getting too deep.

I could see it getting crowded if there are several ships in port at one time.

We did Megan's bay spring break 2014 on the fantasy through dcl. We loved it. We had no problem getting our chairs in the dcl section close to the water & food. There are cocktail waitresses that come around regularly, so no need to stand in lines for that. My teens were able to wander over and rent a paddle boat. Beautiful place. Don't remember seeing any lizards of any kind. Bathrooms were fine. Food was good. I do remember people hauling lounge chairs down the beach, no thanks.

Can't add anything more to other comments so here's a pictorial.

We took a cab early in the morning. First ones there. took this pic.

Rented two chairs and a raft. Relaxed and loving it.

My memory is that the cab was $8 pp each way, entry fee $4, rentals about $15, tipped the chair guy a couple bucks to bring the chair 100 yards or so under a nice tree. Total cost for two was under $50 including tips. Our cab driver volunteered to return at a set time and pick us up. He did, right on time. We went in a small SUV that was air conditioned and comfy. I think the cab dispatcher did that instead of the open air van because I use a cane.
