Tell me about Marriott's timeshare talk, please (edited)

After much discussion, I *think* I have decided that we are going to stay offsite when we go to Disney. It will just be better with the size group we have (four adults, three kids).

Never mind, we don't have to do the timeshare talk! Yeah! My mom is going with us and we can get a timeshare rate through her, which is not much more than the timeshare talk rate.

Is the Marriott resort really that close to the parks? DH's brother told him that staying onsite does not really save you that much time.
