Tell me about Marrakesh

I'm in the planning stages for an upcoming June trip. I'm trying to make most of our dinner reservations in advance this year since we are a party of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids). I would like to eat at some of our old favorites, but also try a couple of new places. I keep seeing Marrakesh listed as one of folks favorite restaurants.

Could you take a few minutes and let me know what makes it a special place for your family? What's your favorite meal item? Also, is this a place where you are required to sit on the floor. We have one member of our party with back problems.

Thanks for any help with this decision!

This is my favorite restaurant in Epcot!! The atmosphere is great. They have musicians, they have belly dancers. They have lots of menu items, they have lamb (I'm not a big lamb fan) They have couscous which I love! They can make it with veggies, with chicken, with lamb. They have sampler platters, which my best friend and I always have when we go, it has soups, salads, entree. They have a desert, which I got free on my birthday last November, which was great, but I can't remember what it is called. They have good drinks, specialty drinks, Casablanca beer, etc. And no, you do not have to sit on the floor. I think if you are looking to do something you haven't done before, Marrakesh is a great choice!
Hope this helps! :wizard:

Morroccan food is wonderful - the Chicken Bastilla is a great introduction into it, as it is probably like nothing you've ever tried.

It is a phyllo dough covered concoction, with scrambled eggs, chicken, almonds and powdered sugar all mixed together to make a unique dish that I've never seen matched in any other ethnicity.

The food in general is salty and not spicy, with lots of chicken and lamb dishes. Very yummy.

It's one of my fave places, it's truly an escape from the parks - we had a very relaxing lunch here one afternoon.

The belly dancer is great, she's there at dinner and lunch, and always gets the kids and adults alike dancing along =) The band was great, too! I got the sampler platter, since I like a litlte bit of everything, and it's a ton of food - enjoyed every bite of it. www.allearsnet.com will have all the menus if you want to check it all out.

You sit at tables, no worries there =)

Nothing I had was spicy, they use unusual spices, but not hot spices - I'm incredibly sensitive to spicy foods, and I ate everything fine.

=)

DW just made ressies at the Marrakesh for our Epcot day!

the atmosphere is great, the lamb is great, the mint tea is great, the lamb is great, the belly dancer is great, the lamb is great, the live music is great, the lamb is great, the desserts are great, the lamb is great, the lack of crowds is great, the lamb is great

oh yeah, I like the lamb too :cool1:

Just remembered 1 more thing I love about Marrakesh. The coffee with the rosewater in it. Went great w/that dessert (that I still can't remember the name of).

Did anyone happen to mention how fabulous the lamb is? LOL
All jokes aside, the lamb couscous is to die for!!!!!

This restaurant is one we like as well. It is probably the favorite, as it is the one we eat at most often in WS. I think my husband just likes the belly dancer, just kidding. The food is excellent. The staff is superb. We have an 8 year old and we've been going there since he was a baby. Our waiters always treat our son extremely well. The last time we were there last year. I was extremely impressed with the attention that was paid to my son. He was treated just like the adults and asked how his food was and if there was anything he needed.

I am not much for an adventure with my food, but everything I have eaten has been delicious. Definately a must to take my father-in-law there when we go in July.

One of my best friends was born in Morocco and she really likes Marrakesh. If it's as good as her mama's cooking, then it's got to be great!

We love it....but be aware...

Some people are disappointed because they expect spicy. Moroccan food (at least at Marrakesh and the restaurant I've been to here) isn't spicy. They do like to mix sweet and savory (see meat pastries covered with sugar above) - which can be an odd combination to a meat and potatos palate.

My husband and I usually split whatever feast doesn't feature a lot of fish.....

I would highly recommend it. It took years for me to agree to go (not my taste) but boy was I wrong! Everything I had was delicious and not spicy. The atmosphere was very nice and the belly dancer was very entertaining. It is a definite do again.

The BEST part of the whole place is the waiters!!! OH MY GOSH! There is something about them... the way they look into your eyes when you order. They are so attractive! I went back for dinner there with a friend just so I could stare at them some more! hahahaha

I hear ya! I went there for the 1st time about 3 years ago, on my birthday, and my friend thought it would be great if she could get all the waiters with me in a pic for my birthday. She succeded!

I agree with all of the above!!! I read about Marrakesh in the UG, and they said it really is an undiscovered jewel at Epcot. So, two years ago, we went there on our last night at WDW, and absolutely loved it. We have since made it our "night before we leave" tradition. The atmosphere is wonderful, and I also agree with the poster who raved about the waiters. They are very charming, and nice to look at! Last year, our waiter absolutely enchanted my DD and even wrote her name and "Welcome to Morocco" in Arabic on a paper for her. It's a great experience and I highly recommend it.

Oh yeah, the lamb is great, too! :)
