Tell me about Mara

We are staying at AKL in Sept. and will be having breakfast at Mara most mornings. I have looked at the menu on Allears and it seems smaller than some of the other CS spots at the other resorts, specifically the offerings for kids. Anyone been there recently? And, how is the food?

I can tell you the fried shimp is very gross and greasy. The zebra domes are just ok

I loved Mara because they had Mickey Waffles, something the WL did not. It also seemed to me that Mara was more on par (meaning more choices) with the CS at the moderates or value. Roaring Forks at the WL did not seem to have a big variety of things - the CS at POFQ was better and Mara was right with that.

During our March trip, DD25 and I both came down with the flu, so we ate at Mara a lot. The butternut squash soup is wonderful, and DD enjoyed the flatbreads, hamburgers, mac and cheese and also various bakery items. We thought the zebra domes were yummy.

DD did mourn the rotisserie chicken sandwich on pretzel bread that they used to have but don't have any longer. Still, it's good food, a nice variety (not just hamburgers, some interesting offerings), and it's big and open.

We were at AKL this past February and got breakfast at Mara (took it back to the room) and dinner there twice. We thought it was great! My dad loved the butternut squash soap, and the Ceasar salad was wonderful; plus the sweet potato chips are addictive! We stuck to cold foods for breakfast: cereal, fruit, pastries, milk.

The main negative about Mara is that the hot food line gets very congested and it can take a long time to get your food. If you are in a group, send one person to order in the line while the others get drinks and get a table.
