Tell me about Kona Cafe

Had a 9 night stay w/ free DDP in Sept. and we wanted to try Kona for dinner after reading such good reviews. It was awesome! I had the Tuna Oscar, which is seared on the outside and very rare on the inside, and the taste was unbelievable. DW had the Coconut-Almond Chicken and loved it. The loaf of sweet bread with Macademia Nut Butter is great. We had virgin Pina Colada's (yes I handed in my MAN card, but oh they were so good) which were included on the DDP. And the desserts were to die for (I had the fondue, perfect amount and variety). The toughest thing about the meal was going up to the dessert bar where you can see an example of all the possible dessert selections and debating which one you were going to get. Honestly the only meal we liked better was a last-night lobster dinner at Narcoosee's (and it took two credits). On the 1000 mile drive home we always talk about which restaurants are must do next time, and which ones we won't repeat in order to try something new. Kona is a must do again next trip.

We've eaten dinner there, and while the food was great, I didn't care for the service or the atmosphere. We were seated right by the entrance, and I totally felt that the people waiting for a table were watching me eat. The server we had that night was not very personable and I felt rushed the entire time I was eating. Again, though, the food was great, but I felt like I couldn't enjoy it as much. Probably just me, but I've been hesitant to book another reservation there because of that experience.

I can understand that, especially given how open the restaurant is to the lobby.

If you do decide to go back, and they seat you by the entrance again, I'd ask to wait for another table. With a different table and possibly a different server (or maybe the same server in a different mood?), you probably won't feel so rushed next time.

We just returned today and Kona is actually the only "Won't go back" restaurant we visited. We had dinner there, and food was just OK, and though it may be unfair, the restaurant location is in a very public area, and the Hotel was crazy busy, so we were not impressed.

Probably my favorite restaurant in all of WDW (LeCellier a close second). Everything there is great, you won't be disappointed!

We've only had breakfast there, but we LOOOOOVE it. We go each trip for breakfast right before we leave for home. :sad1: So yummy. I've always heard lunch and dinner are great, too, and now, after reading through this thread, I'm wondering if I shouldn't try and rearrange something?! Wish I could go there right now!:rolleyes1

I have eaten there twice and loved it both times. The crab cakes, shrimp and scallops, creme brulee and bread are all great. My husband really enjoyed the sushi. I have had great service both visits. I agree that the atmosphere isn't the best but the food more than makes up for it. We will return there again on our next trip.
