I have never been to HH, but have seen pictures and it looks beautiful. I'm just curious if we would be better off renting a house there for our family or staying at Disney's resort in a 2BR. I seems like a villa costs the same as a whole house rental. And from looking at the pictures of the resort, I can't tell what I would be getting for the extra $$$. Is it right on the beach? What will we get extra for staying there that I wouldn't have at a rental house? What does it have to offer the kiddos?

While the Disney Resort is not right on the ocean, is right on the marsh & still has beautiful water views. There is a themed pool with an enclosed slide & lots of activities including a campfire with sing alongs & smores. There is also a shuttle that takes you to the Beach House which is only a short ride away. The Beach House is right on the beach with a pool, game room, snack bar, changing room, restroom, etc. You can't beat the convenience when going to the beach. There are some cute gift shops & restaurants right on the other side of the Resort Marina & well within walking distance.

However, if none of that is important to you & you'd rather have more room, privacy, perhaps a private pool, then I don't think renting a house is a bad idea either. It's not like WDW where to me staying on-site is important, because we hate to drive & we prefer to rely on Disney transportation. In Hilton Head you pretty much have to drive if you want to see what the island has to offer anyway.

Thanks for your info. That is pretty much what I thought. I'm sure the Disney resort is beautiful, and I agree that in WDW it is WAY better to be on property, but I'm thinking for us, it would be better to get a house for the same money, that is large enough to split with another family.

We have a place at HH, but recently visited the resort for a couple of days. One thing you get there: the fabulous CM's and activities for everyone. If you like to be on the go and do lots of things you can't beat staying there.
