My oldest is off to college this coming fall so our next trip will be in May 2018, when she is out after her first year. I have never visited in the spring. It would be approximately May 10-17th, so mid-May. What do we need to know? How busy is it then? How is the weather?

If life cooperated, that would be my favorite time to visit.
Nice temps, Flower and Garden, fairly low crowds (in the 5 range last year)

Average temps are 66-88 (which falls into my favorite wear shorts all day, and no cumbersome layers to worry about)

Great time to go weather wise! As far as crowds, tough to say, as it seems as there are very few less crowded times. I wouldn't sweat it and go and have fun.

I went during that time last year, and it was a great time to go! Most of the elementary students are still in school, so the parks aren't super crowded. The weather was right around their average in the high 80s, and you shouldn't need a jacket at night. You may notice a some local schools taking field trips, but it's not a problem unless you get stuck with them on the Haunted Mansion and they all decide to scream... o_O

I love that time....crowds manageable, weather is hot enough that you want to get in the pool but not so hot that you're miserable, you're still not up against Memorial Day, and as has been mentioned, Flower and Garden is going on. It's pretty much, to me, the ideal time to go. Which is why we'll be there May 12 - 20! :-)

We went May 6-10 last year & it was our best trip yet! Very low crowds & absolutely beautiful weather. I think you will love it!

You guys ROCK!!! Thank you so very much. You made my day and now I can't stop smiling at work. Decision is made! :thanks:

May has good summer-like weather without it being a sauna. The Epcot Flower & Garden festival also goes all the way through the end of May this year. It's like a mini Food & Wine festival with the booths around World Showcase, but there's also tons of topiaries and other special landscaping. May 10-17 would allow you to see both Wishes and the new Happily Ever After (premieres May 12) at Magic Kingdom.

That sounds really nice. Thank you Doug!

That is great time for WDW! We have been there several times in mid-May. Post sping break crowds, some of our mid-May trips have been more crowded than others but not unmanageable by any means. The weather is also great that time of year - you do get the occasional afternoon shower but the weather is warm but not yet terribly humid. Plus you have Flower and Garden to enjoy at Epcot.

I'm taking my niece May 4 - 9 and it will be my first time going in May! I'm so excited, and hope to have as nice a trip as you! Thank you for sharing! :D :D :D

Our girls are in High School now, but when they were younger we went 3 or 4 times in May before school got out. We loved it! The crowds were manageable and the weather was great. It was warm enough to enjoy the pools without being miserably hot. Can't wait to go again in May! You have given me hope that once they are both in college we can go again in May.

Another happy May traveler! We love it and are doing our 3 trip. As others have said most schools are still in session and it seems not many people are willing to pull their kids so close to summer vacation. My DD gets out of school Mid May and we will head down shortly.

You might also miss the nearly every afternoon thunderstorm as I think we only got rain one day of our last two May trips.

Just remember that while it might not be blazing hot, you will still need to make certain to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen. Have a blast.

May is one of my favorite times to go! Something you should be aware of this May is that Wishes is ending May 11. Magic Kingdom will probably see much higher crowds than normal for May at night probably the entire time you're there, especially the nights of the 11 & 12. They daytime I can't see being impacted but I'm betting you'll see some higher numbers than you're expecting at night. Otherwise, the crowds should be pretty great, though there are no slow times of year to go anymore.

We went the first of May last year and had an amazing time! Great crowds, weather and very pleasant overall. I was just reading the Moana wait time thread and was thinking about how lucky we were last year with the M&Gs. The longest wait was for Buzz and Woody, and that was only around 23 minutes. Even meeting Joy and Sadness was practically a walk in. The longer waits (Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa) we had fps for. Lol, we waited around 5 minutes to meet Ariel, and that was because I thought I was in line for the ride.

Can't offer May advice, but wanted to add that we are in the same boat. My DD and I have gone the last 3 years just us girls during her high school February break as that is DH's busy season. Now that she's in her first year of college, we are going in May after she gets out and bringing DH with us this year! Loving all of the positive replies for a May visit!
