Tell me about driving in

I haven't booked a hotel yet, but I think we'll be driving into the park. We've only stayed at GCH previously, so I am completely unfamiliar with how to deal with driving in. I think we will get a parking pass thru AAA; don't know if that is limited to a specific lot.

Also any tips for driving back in for the evening since we'll probably take an afternoon break.

Right now we are leaning towards staying @ Homewood or Residence Inn.

Thanks

Well for one thing, if you book an onsite hotel you won't need to drive in. Also for most of the hotels on Harbor you can walk over from your hotel. Hotels that are a little farther out either have their own shuttle or the ART which goes between the hotels and DL. So if you are staying anywhere in the area you won't need to worry about driving in.

Your parking pass thru AAA is probably only good for parking at the Mickey & Friends structure. That's how the parking passes normally are. Where are you staying? That will determine whether you even need to drive at all.

From the places you are staying you might consder walking from RI. It is not real close, but if you are in reasonable walking condition doable. As said you could consider ART as well from either location.

I'm not sure but now that DLR has two major parking areas you might want to park at the Toy Story lot as instead of M&F with the AAA pass. I'll bet the pass will tell you if this is the true. DLR now has two major parking areas and from either of you hotel choices disney would direct you to park at the TS lot.

The RI on Clementine is not really that far away if the OP can walk, about 10 minutes for this 64 yo man. You spend more time waiting for the lights.
Why not just stay across the street and make life easy.

Jack

Is there more than one RI? Why do people keep referring to it as RI on Clementine?

Once you're in the lot, can you walk to the gate or do you have to take a tram? Is it dependent on how far you've parked?

What's parking like on Friday / Saturday evening. We may only go in one evening since we're trying to meet up with friends in the area.

IS the TS lot closer? How much is parking? Are there in-and-out privileges?

i'm sorry, I must have totally missed the last line of your post. LOL Both locations you've listed are farther out, I'm with Jack. See if you can find someplace on Harbor that's across the street, or see if you can stay onsite. that would make things much easier for you. :)

I believe parking is $15 at each lot. S Clementine is probably walkable but not the best choice. If you're set on staying there then you'll want to get onto Disney Way and follow that to the parking structure, you will see signs. I'm not familiar with the TS Lot as it is a new lot and was not in use when we were there last. Alternatively you can get onto Ball Rd and follow Ball to the parking structure. You said you have a parking pass thru AAA, if so then you will not be charged for parking at the structure (Mickey & Friends parking structure), I assume that you would not have to pay at the TS Lot either but again, having no experience with that lot I can't say for sure. :)

it's not worth it to drive to the Park. It's only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. There's also a shuttle that runs every 15 minutes that's pretty cheap.

There are more than one RI. But I doubt that the OP is talking about one oustide of the Anaheim area.

From the M&F you can walk. When the waits are over one trams sometimes it's faster, but still a good hike. From TS a further walk but still possible.

Parking is the same at both M&F and TS except on is a garage the other a lot. $15 and they let you go in and out. They are the two major parking lots for DLR. If you come from the North you are directed to M&F if you come from the South you are directed to TS.

For some reason it seems people are trained to think of M&F being the only parking area at DLR. I know people who tried out the TS lot in June. To thier surprise it was simpler, and faster. They don't go back to M&F. It's almost like TS is a secret insider spot.

There is no "driving in" to DL. Unless you mean the Parking Garages??? Are you doing a Disney Good Neighbor package?? Good Neighbor Hotels are more expensive with that package then Booking the hotels Direct.

But if you stay in a hotel on Harbor Blvd across from the walk way to DL!! Like these hotels!!

Desert Inn and Suites - 1600 S. Harbor Blvd So Close it is easy to walk to and from DL and Desert Inn and Suites!! Especially good if you will have children with you! Free breakfast.

Tropicana Inn & Suites 1540 South Harbor Blvd - Is also close to the walk way.

Howard Johnson Hotel -1380 South Harbor Blvd - Is the furthest away on Harbor Blvd. But they have the Entertainment Book rates!!http://www.hojoanaheim.com/what-you-get/rooms

Someone here will Post the HOJO Entertainment Book rates page for you soon!!!!

I parked at the Toy Story lot for the first time and it was really easy. I was quite nervous about it because I haven't parked at DL in years. I was a little peeved because it was so fr, (over by the Hilton and Towers!) but it went very smooth and very quickly. They had the buses there ready to load and go. They didn't really give us a choice. When I pulled off the freeway all the signs for parking took you to the TS lot.

I found this map!! It shows where the Harbor Hotels are in reference to the Dl Enterance!!
