Tell me about Drawn to the Magic?

It's kinda a small little show near Monsters Inc. You can usually get seats on the benches 15 min before the show. There's only like 5 or 6 rows of benches so every seat is pretty much good though it is better from the first row.

Three disney "animators" come out to and sing and dance to a mish mash of disney songs while they extoll the virtues of either the princes, princesses or magic characters (not sure exactly what they call them). They pick 3 children from the audience at the start of the show to come up on stage for a bit where they say a line like "to inifinity and beyond" etc.

For the finale of the show 3 Characters come out. Im not sure if they are the same all the time. Earlier this month they were Woody, Cinderella and Sorerer Mickey.

After the show you can go up and get pics and autos with the characters.

If you've never seen it, its worth seeing once, but its not a must do like Aladdin or something.

We saw it on our trip end of July.......we really enjoyed it. The performers are the actual artists (we found that out after our son was picked to go on stage). After the show he was given the drawing signed by the performer. It was really a nice bonus for him!!

We saw that last November and I was surprised by how much we enjoyed it. It's a very pleasant way to take a break, relax, and cool off. Plus you get to get pictures with the characters without feeling rushed. I would recommend it for sure.

It's a fun show. We have enjoyed it enough to watch many times. The characters that come out at the end are usually Cinderella, Sorcerer Mickey, and Woody. We have seen Snow White instead of Cinderella once or twice, and another time, probably quite a while ago now, we saw Hercules instead of Woody. I enjoy watching the show most when they are performing on the stage near Monster's Inc. If that stage is being used for something else during the day, Drawn to the Magic will be performed instead on the sidewalk in front of the Animation Studio. We don't enjoy the show as much in that spot since the space feels tight, people are continuously walking past and through, and there's no seating. It's the same show in both locations though.

Just wondering if anyone knows how the children are picked for this show. Is it something like Jedi Training where you need clothing/sign/lots of energy?

Thanks

My DD was picked last year, she was wearing a birthday button and one of the performers just walked over and picked her. If I remember right they picked her before the show started, I think. She definitely wasn't jumping around with a sign, we didn't even know they were picking kids at the time. :goodvibes

We were sitting in the back row & the performers said they needed 3 volunteers.....my kids stood up & put there hands up & my son was picked. Nothing special....no signs!

When we saw it this week, it was Cinderella, Sorcerer Mickey and Peter Pan. We've previously seen Woody instead of Peter Pan.

Just make sure that you don't touch your child while they are selecting, LOL. My DS held up one hand and I picked up his other and kind of waved it around. The CM looked at him and said "it has to be your own hand." My DS was devistated because he did have his hand up. So not only was he not picked, but the CM announced in front of the whole group that he wasn't going to pick him  But DS was a trooper and sat politely through the whole show, clapping for the entertainers and other kids that got picked. I felt so bad for DS and mad at myself for ruining his chances of getting picked.

Luckily we went to Turtle Talk right afterwards and Crush picked him first to ask a question. So the other event was quickly forgotten.

We saw the show the last time we were there, and enjoyed it. It was a pleasant break as it wasn't too busy there and we didn't have to stand in a lineup to get a seat!

I'm glad someone started this thread as I thought it was like the Animation Studio we went to in WDW where an artist walked you through the steps of drawing a character. My DD loved this is WDW. Is there something like this in DL?

Yes, it's the Animation Academy in California Adventure. A Disney artist takes you step by step on how to draw a Disney character. The sessions are every half hour and my kids absolutely love it. They get to keep the drawings that they attempt, too, so it's a nice (free) souvenir.

Yes, the Animation Academy, where you learn to draw a character, is in the Animation Studio on Hollywood Blvd in DCA.

Thanks guys!!! She will be soooo happy! We did this at the end of the day at WDW, it was the last drawing of the day and we drew a winking Mickey. I'm sure if it was open longer we would have done it again and again and again!
