Tell me about Disney in June

DH & I are contemplating driving to Disney from Eastern PA with the kids this summer(6 & 8yo). We went in January for the 1st time ever and had a blast and want to go back and have the luxury of time/school vacation and our own auto. Our neighbors who went in June 3 years ago, are saying the crowds are unbearable and the weather is hotter than hades and they don't think we'll enjoy ourselves. So I guess what I'm looking for is the good, the bad and the ugly of doing Disney in June?

I'm interested too since we will be doing Disney the week of Father's Day. I live in Miami so obviously I know how hot and humid it can get but would like to know more about the crowds at that time.

We can't pull our kids from school to go, so summer is our only choice. Last June it was hot and crowded, but still MAGICAL :wizard: !!! Just use fastpasses and make ADRs and you will be fine. :goodvibes

We're going for our first time this summer and we're driving from Mass. We'll be in the world june 25-29. Hope I can figure out the fast pass thing!

Some other great tips we found here on the DIS were:
-battery powered clip-on misting fans
-cooling sunscreen
and
-Crocs (especially on wet rides)

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

:goodvibes We'll be there in June as well!! First day in the parks will be Star Wars Weekend for Father's Day!! I live in GA, so pretty much everywhere is hot and humid--we're used to that! Got ADR's daily, and plan on using Fastpass lots! This is our first family trip, so even with crowds, I'm sure we'll be feeling the MAGIC!!

Two months from tomorrow!!! YAY!

We went in June last year and had a WONDERFUL time - we usually go in October. We had such a good time we're going back this June :)

That being said, we live in Virginia, and thanks to global warming or whatever, it was actually COOLER in Disney then it was at home! LOL!

We made sure to not go "commando" on our trip, we just really enjoyed ourselves and stopped whenever we wanted to. Your kids are a little older, are they involved in your planning at all? Before we left, my son made a list of his "have to-do's", the things that he REALLY wanted to make sure we got done. My girls were only 2 then, so they didn't really care! We made sure that we did my son's must-do's, the things we thought our daughters would enjoy, and everything else was just extra.

The best DIS tip I have to share is to purchase a watch that you can set an alarm (or two!) and has an hourly chime. I set the alarms for 10:30 a.m. (time to think about lunch!) and 4:30 p.m. (time to think about dinner!), and everytime we heard the hour chime (which was not every hour, Disney can be a LOUD place!), we would go someplace cool and have some water. The watch I found was a cheapo Casio, I think I paid $12 for it at Wal*Mart.

Have a great time!

We were there last June for a week around Father's Day and I expected the worst so it didn't seem that bad to me. Don't get me wrong-it was crowded and hot-but not as bad as I thought it would be. We're going again this June.

Plan for the rain, you're planning your trip during our wonderful Hurricane/rainey season. However, all that means is a couple of .87 ponchos and a good spirit. Seriously, you aren't made out of sugar, you won't melt. I personally LOVE to see people run for cover during the rain ... that's when we head off for a good couple of rides, with no waits. The only time I don't recommend this is when someone's made Mother Nature angry and there is lightning in the air.

Yes, it's HOT. Hello, it's Florida. It's almost always hot. We're in the 50's right now for lows, and we're all crying about it .... hahaha ... go figure. Does the fact that it's HOT mean anything .. eh, cranky kids. Your guys are old enough to know a little better ... you just have to work with them mom. Sure, the eight year old might think you're nuts when you suggest leaving the park to go back to the room and take a rest *don't drop the nap word* ... however, an hour in a cool hotel room, maybe a swim ... you're ready to go. We usually camp at Wilderness, but my daughter is two so the nap word is crucial .... my sister is nine and doesn't like hanging out with the baby .. but if she's getting cranky, I make her lay in her bunk with a good book or her DS to rest. Parents need rest too, you don't want to be the parent that yells "Do you know how much I paid for this trip?!?!?!" I found something that works though instead ... at the end of the Pirate and Princess party, it was 12:30am ... my sister was DONE. She decided to throw one heck of a fit where I calmly explained to her "Walt wrote a rule book, there's no whining at Disney, do we need to go look at it?" "BUT, I waannnaa ride another riiiide, SIIISSSSSYYY" "There's NO WHINING AT DISNEY, we're going home!" Good thing we really were going home ... haha ... but yeah, cranky parent ... bad situation.

I live down here ... and we don't usually go in June. No offense, but it's too darn hot ... but we can go for weekend trips anytime ... we can be picky... That'll change when Julie's older, but right now we usually skip over the summer b/c we have that option. I say enjoy it ... get a nice tan, play in the rain *hopefully just enough* and meet some new friends while in line for some rides.

our anniversary is June 10, so we have taken several trips around that week because not only is it our anniversary, its also about the time the kids get out of school so it works well for us.

I would suggest hoppers because that way if a park gets too crowded, you can always leave.

Start early and leave midday during the heat and then return in the evening when it cools down.

Plan on rain everyday, but remember it usually won't rain for long and it will dry quickly.

We have taken water bottles and fans and those jell things you wear around your neck, but we really found them to be a huge pain. Think about how your family travels and decide if you would really use them. We have never done strollers so it each man for themselves carrying things. We really found it easier to just use regular size water bottles. The one thing I love is a wash cloth in a ziploc bag to wipe off the sweat with. That is the one thing I will carry with me.

Make plans, but don't be disappointed it you don't follow them to the letter, because you are on vacation and you need a little flexibility too!

We hated June and will never go back during that time again. I would rather go during school vacation weeks in February, April or even Christmas time. I like it hot, but the humidity was just too much to handle. No sooner did we step off the monorail and walked through the ticket booth and we were covered in sweat through and through. We never take breaks when we go at other times of the year, but we had to go back to villa mid day when we went in June. We were lucky to stay in a place that had a washer and dryer. We would go through 2-3 outfits each day and I can't imagine those sweaty clothes piling up in a hotel room. If we went to Florida again in June, it would strictly be a relaxing pool vacation and we wouldn't waste our money on the parks. We travel at peak times but we find the crowds to be more manageable when you aren't hot, sticky and exhausted. It did rain everyday for no longer than an hour and I had heard that the parks clear out during the rain. We didn't find that to be the case at all.

We're going in June as well (23 - 30) and I'm sure that we will probably be miserable because of the heat, but if NC is anything like it was last year then I had rather be hot and sticky at WDW than here! I have it in my head already that it will be miserable with DS (22 mos) and DD (6) because of the heat and the fact that my dead had lung surgery a few months ago, but I am ready to fight the crowds and show my DD what a great time WDW is so she will want to go back again very soon:laughing: (that's an excuse for me to go back as well!!!) I do plan on taking it easy since my parents and little ones are going. Definitely plan on going back to the hotel to rest during the day so we'll be ready for those Extra Magic Hours!

Our family went in June 2004 and I didn't think it was that bad. It poured on us one day for an hour and then one other day at two different times. It was warm rain for us, so it was no big deal.:goodvibes Other than that, the other five days were wonderful... We stayed at DW hotel and would go to the park that was open late or opened early to avoid lines. I didn't think it was too crowded.

We are going again this year in June (13-19th) and looking forward to it.

We went early June last year and it was on the warm side and a bit crowded, but it wasn't unbearable.

If you master the art of the Fast Pass you should be set!

Have a great time!

We have done June, July, August, Sept, and Dec. Although Dec canot be beat June can be nice.

As others have mentioned, yes its hot. But you also have much longer park hours. Start early!! Be at the park of your choice at opening or earlier. Have lunch and return to your resort for a swim and rest. Make sure to schedule down time between noon and 5, these are the hottest and most crowded times in the parks. Many times we hit the MK early entry, knock out Fantasyland, allowing the little ones to ride everything twice while the teens hit Tommorrowland. We then hit the other Mtns and maybe POC and head out of the park by noon. It is amazing how many people are just coming in at that time and at this point its getting warm and the crowds are building. We on the other hand have completed a chunk of rides with little to no wait and are now ready for some R&R. We then return to a parka round 5, enjoy a ride or show have dinner and then enjoy the park in without the temps being in the 90's.

We love June but we build alot of down time into our touring because the heat can make you miserable. The teens really enjoy alot of time at the water parks and we spend alot of time at the resort pool with our 2 younger ones. We go with the attitude we will be returning and we feel no need to cram alot in. We try to do alot of things in the parks in the am and then we just enjoy being in the parks in the evenings.

My family went last June. We are from Ohio - the heat and humidity were tolerable. However, the rain was terrible. We were there the 9th - 13th and it rained almost everyday. Not a light rain, downpours for much of the day(a tropical storm hit while we were there). In most of the pictures we were soaked. We brought rain pochos with us, and they helped a little. Major rides were closed for hours some of the days. The crowds grew each day. On our last day, the crowds were very bad. We think it was because it finally stopped raining. AK was so crowded, it was difficult to walk. Lines were long. CS was crowded the entire trip. I'd sit at a table, and my husband would order for us. ADRs for TS were needed - we saw families getting turned away and were told no opening for the week.

We did get to ride a lot despite the rain. We enjoyed the trip, but not the rain. We would avoid June in the future!

The three trips we have taken have been January, June and February respectively.....we would definitely choose the winter months hands down, but its not awful in June either because of course you are still in Disney World! There's magic no matter what!

But both our winter trips we hardly used fast passes, walked on almost everything we wanted to, didn't have to be too early for shows like Fantastmic and we had a good mix of warmer and cooler days. Second trip in June was a shock to us - went with extended family and the crowds were a bit discouraging to all of us. For example, in January we were able to do almost everything we wanted to in Magic Kingdom in one day. In June, I think we were able to fast pass 4 or 5 major things and ate at Crystal Palace (with advanced res. thank goodness) and made it through the afternoon parade (though my neice suffered heatstroke because of it) and then had to go back to our resort for the pool.

So I would say even though you have the extended hours in the summer, you still can't get through as much in the parks because of the crowds. And I would think with or without kids, you have to stop in the middle of the day for the pool or to go back and shower and rest. The heat really sucks the life out of you, even if you are used to heat and humidity you usually aren't walking outside in it all day so it takes its toll.

We are planning again for January 2008. I asked my girls if they wanted to try and go in August to take advantage of free dining but they asked if we could go when it was cooler!

I am sure you will still have a magical trip. Just prepare realistically for the heat and the lines so it doesn't frazzle you!

We went in June 2 yrs ago, and it was hot and crowded. With that said, it was fine. We are early risers, so it was not a problem getting to the park when it opened. I think that is key for riding many rides with hardly any wait times. The rest of the times we used fast passes. We always take a break around 1pm or so, and head back to the hotel for a nap(Well for my youngest). My older 2 kids will hit the pool while the yongest naps. Normally we eat a quick dinner and head back to one of the parks. We do not stay on site, but we love having the car to come and go as we please.

We are going again this June (19-25)
