Can someone explain developer points to me? Im clueless. What are they, why would I want them? Ya know - the basics.

They are basically filler points added as a sales incentive. Currently at AKV, if you buy you get AKV points that you will not be able to use for the first time until May 09. To fill that gap in time of having points to use, they will give you an equal number of "developer" points (meaning points still controlled by Disney) which are good for one year only from date of sale, allow you to stay only at SSR or a Disneyland hotel, and you can reserve 7 months or less out. You must use them within the year or lose them.

I don't think you can use them at a Disneyland Hotel, from my recollection (we recently purchased AKV) its either SSR or exchange into Interval.

Unless they have changed the rules, you can use your developers points at a Disneyland Hotel. We just returned from 3 days at the DLH thanks to the developers points that came with out AKV add on.

We got developer points with our AKV contract while on the Disney magic. Our developer points are good for 24 months if we use them at for weekly stays at interval international or on DCL. We just have to book within the 1st 12 months if we plan to use them months 13-24. I am not sure if they have the same requirements if you purchase from the DVC on land.

I could use mine at any of the disneyland hotels, Saratoga springs if it is within the 1st 12 months.

You would want them because they are free points - you just have to follow the rules to use them. If you like going on DCL they are perfect. If you get 160 developer points, and you were to buy them from someone else at $11.00 a point that would be $1760 free in your pocket.

You can use them for the Disneyland resorts, I booked the Disneyland Hotel for my trip next May.

You have to check the contract, depending on when you bought, they may have different rules. I bought on 10/5 and the rules for my developer points say that I must use the at SSR or any Disneyland Resort within 12 months of the purchase date (10/5) and that the reservation has to be made within the first 8 months (though travel can be done in the last 4 months). I can also them for exchange in II, but the search my be initiated within 12 months of the purchase date, and travel must be done within 24 months.

To answer Goofy...I got mine for purchasing at AKV.

Why are they offering these points. How do you get them.

As stated by poster drusba (Post #2) Developer Points are offered when buying into DVC currently with purchase of 160 point DVC contract with AKV as your Home Resort. DPs are an 'incentive' to purchase your points at AKV & since May 2009 is earliest the regular allotment of DVC points could be used.

You would receive 160 Developer Points upon your purchase of 160 point DVC membership contract. These are not "regular" DVC points - regular points allotment is on the 1st of your Use Year month for each year of your membership. Couple months back purchasers were able to make an initial buy-in to DVC with 100 points AKV purchase & received 100 DPs (this expired on Sept 20) and current member purchase for add-on contract at AKV had DP incentive as well.

I wholeheartedly second this suggestion! There has been some misinformation on this board regarding the use of these points. Generally the basic concept of what they are is not wrong. But since DVC has changed the terms over the last few years many people have been giving usage information based upon the developer points they received, not the ones DVC may be issuing now. The only way to know exactly what you can and cannot use your developer points for is to read your contract.

I can also them for exchange in II, but the search my be initiated within 12 months of the purchase date, and travel must be done within 24 months.

Read the fine print carefully! According to another poster (who quoted their contract documents) this is only true if you are booking a 7 day stay. If you book 6 days or fewer through II, you only have 12 months to complete travel. This is yet another example of why reading your contract is so important!

While it is correct that developer points are an incentive, to associate them with Kidani being currently unopened is incorrect. According to your own post you are aware they have been offered for some time. When we added on almost 2 years ago, they were offered with either SSR or AKV - Jambo purchases. Additionally, BLT is not currently open however they are not offered when purchasing there. Clearly it is an incentive that has nothing to do with Kidani being unopened.

Okay thanks I will have to check my contract because we bought one month ago at AKV Kidani Village and I don't remember him saying any of this. There was alot to take in they day we bought.
