Tell me about Delta, please....

We are usually a Southwest family, however Delta has some GREAT fares that SW just can not beat for our desired travel dates. One major concern I have is that we are wanting to fly from New England at the end of January and the Delta flight has a stop and plane change in Atlanta.

Winter travel aways makes me nervous as it is with the possibilty of weather delays. Adding in the stress of a possible all out flight cancellation as the legacy carriers seem to do every now and then (please no flames!) is making me hesitant to book these flights.

On Southwest, we usually get on our plane in Providence and get off our plane in Orlando and life is good. If we want to make changes to our reservation, it is generally no hassle and more importantly, no huge fees!

It has been years since we have been thru Atlanta/Hartsfield. Can anyone share their experiences with Delta and help me make my decision on whether to book these tickets or not?

I know that many of the legacy carriers have added fees for bags and other services, but I haven't kept up on who has added what.

TIA

I used to fly Delta almost exclusively....loved Song. Then, Song went away and I started flying JetBlue and some SW. While I love Jetblue, I think I'll be flying SW a bit more in the future. Delta gets flown only on occasion now...I hate having to constantly check, and double, then triple check my flights with them. They always change at least three times if I book more than 5 months before travel. JB used to be pretty consistant but is now starting to cancel and move flights around.
SW seems to be pretty consistant once they put their flights out there.
Would I fly Delta? I am next week. But I'm flying JB home from MCO, then in late Sept I have SW booked, Jetblue in Dec and then SW right after Christmas.

As far as Atlanta goes, I know a ton of folks who avoid it like the plague. It's huge and crazy there. You need as much time as possible to make connections there...one reason why I won't book a connecting flight there...just too risky. But, others do it all the time with no issues whatsoever.

Delta is notorious for changing flight times. Check with them often to make sure your flight hasn't been changed.

In 2002, Delta refused to allow me to bring my FAA approved baby seat aboard. I had a paid seat for my 22 month old son. They even had the nerve to ask us if we needed the extra seat before takeoff. I told them that I paid for the seat and they could not have it.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Delta. I don't find ATL bad at all either. Just allow plenty of time to get to your gate.

I have been reading on this board about them changing flight times. If they were to change our flight time to something that is a time that we simply can not work with, do they allow you to cancel or change to something more accomondating without the outrageous fees?

How much cheaper is Delta? I heard SW's rates are high in late January because of the Super Bowl (Tampa).

That is exactly why we are making plans to fly down there. :goodvibes :goodvibes . We have friends that moved to Orlando and friends that just moved to Tampa. Even in the HIGHLY UNLIKLEY event (:rotfl: :rotfl: )that our team does not play in the big game, we still want to be with our old gang to watch the game.

So, SW was $1100 for two and Delta is $439 for BOTH OF US! :scared1: I know, no brainer, right? I just have visions of being stuck in Atlanta all weekend, or worse, not getting there at all.

We usually fly on Delta; we are leaving in two weeks for S. Africa, in Business Elite, paid for with FF miles. Yes, they change flight times, but if they make it a problem, they fix it cheerfully.

Atlanta's airport looks a lot scarier than it is.

Ok, we did it! We booked our airfare with Delta! Thank you all for you comments. The price was too good to not book it.

Delta has had the cheapest flight for us. Tulsa to MCO.
We paid $250 round trip.:cheer2:

That is great!! We booked our nonstop BOS-MCO for January 26, with an excellent fare as well on Delta.

Go Patriots!

We have always flown Delta and loved it. This yr is the exception. Our Sept reservations have never been changed. Our Dec has changed three times. The last time was enough for us and we cancelled and are trying Southwest.

:flower3: Howdy neighbor. I live in Tulsa, too. Hasn't the SW schedule and prices been horrendous? I am looking for December airfare and it has not been a pretty sight. :cutie:

We fly Delta almost exclusively. Their fares regularly beat Southwest by quite a bit for us. Join Skymiles, it's free, and the miles do add up.

About changes, only one of our 4 recent flights had a change. I called Delta, and they fixed the problem. We went from a one stop to a non-stop, free of charge.

Wth my exDIL living in Atlanta and working for Delta, I am there at least once a month to get my grandaughter. I am on the flight benefits so my day is 6am flight BOS to ATL arrive 8:45, deplane, get to next gate and board the 9:45 flight back to Bos. Now, I fly standby because I am benefits. I have never had a problem getting on a flight to or from Boston. I stoped going out of PVD, to little flights and to nerve racking to be cleared from the stanby list.

I am going in May for my annual girls only trip and we booked Delta, non-stop for ony $188RT. Had to do it at that price. I am aware the times may change, but the price won't. Nowadays ALL airlines are changing their flights daily because of flying fewer planes. That is the way it is and we just have to adapt to it. If you buy tickest well in advance you can bet they will change at least once before you leave.

Hi BETTYDISNEY !! Maybe we should start organizing a DIS Superbowl party! Will you be staying all weekend, too?

Wow, you must be living right. The last time I was in Boston I had that 6 am flight booked (it was cheap LOL!) and it was overbooked. Worked great for me I got a $300 credit (I was the only needed volunteer) but the non-revs all moved with me to the 8:30 flight...

Carol, it all depends on the day you fly. Carri lets me know what days the flights are wide open, and most people miss the early flights too! If I go on a Sundau morning I never have an issue. Mon., Tues and Friday I usually just make it due to her seniority. Unfortunatly my grandaughter has started kindergarten and my son may be buying tickets now.

My flight was a Sunday morning! But I think it had stormed the night before so we may have had some roll over! I have this same flight booked Thanksgiving Sunday... (hoping to beat the rush at BOS!)
