Tell me about California Grill

DH and I want to begin taking the boys to a couple of signature restaurants on our next trip (they will be 5 and 7 when we go back to WDW). One of the ones we want to try is California Grill.

Looking at the CG menu, I'm not sure that DH and I would actually get entrees there, but maybe share some appetizers and some sushi as our meal instead, followed by a dessert or 2. For anyone with experience eating at CG, have you done this? How large are their appetizer and sushi portions? How much would you recommend ordering? Or maybe is it better to get maybe like 3 apps and share an entree and a dessert?

To give you an idea, DH and I are pretty small people, and we follow Weight Watchers all year except when we go on vacation. So, we don't complain about small portions at restaurants, whereas I know this would bother some people. We also like to try different things, and sometimes by ordering a few smaller things and sharing them, it works out better for us.

We always get sushi here; I find the portions quite generous. And IMO the sushi and nice wine selection are the best CG has to offer. My DH and I prefer sashimi and sushi over rolls and getting 2 orders is plenty for us. We rarely do dessert but sometimes we split one.

The Dragon Roll is very big, as far as sushi portions go. My DD and her friend (both 13) split one as an app and they were pretty close to full after that. (Or, as full as they cared to admit while still saving room for dessert!)

DH and I like both sashimi and sushi rolls. We also love good wine! :goodvibes

How many pieces are in a sushi roll at CG?

Anyone have a picture of either sushi or apps at CG?

As usual, I agree with Pakey!!! We do the same....popcorn::

I really enjoyed the California Roll- they were really nice and made the way I like it- in soy paper with no avocado. It was at least 8 good sized pieces. The flat bread was also very good. We did order entrees but took most of them home. I had the cheese plate for dessert and it was good.

I also really recommend Yachtsman- the steaks are large enough to share and it is a good option for families with kids.

Oh yes, the flat breads look very interesting too!

It's funny you mentioned Yachtsman, because we already have that in our plans! DS6's favorite food is steak...last year we went to Le Cellier, and although it was just fine, we weren't very impressed. We went into there knowing that it is very hyped up, so our expectations were not too high, but I thought some of the food was way too salty and really just did not see the big deal. I did think the quality of the steak was very good, but that they sort of ruined it with too much salt. But, I am not into very salty food, and I know a lot of people who love salt and would have loved the food there. Yes, the pretzel bread was good but I also had pretzel bread at Biergarten and I like that restaurant much better than Le Cellier.

Anyway, we decided that for the next trip, we will try Yachtsman. It is also very convenient for us, since we stay at BWV and we could just walk over there.
