In light of DS(3) deciding he doesn't want to see Nemo again, we are going to forgo our planned ADR at Tusker House with priority seating for the show for dinner at Boma after the park closes (should be around 5).

I looked up the menu on allears and it looks really good, but can you guys tell me more?

TIA!

For a buffet, I thought it was excellent. I only eat at buffets in Disney because outside the World I find them to be disgusting.

I tried 3 different soups and they were all fantastic, especially the carrot ginger!

The corn and plantain salad was delicious.

I really liked their falafel - they had some sort of sauce for it...don't remember what it was though.

The chicken was good too, a bit on the dry side, but tasty nonetheless.

Everything was very fresh and the restaurant has an open kitchen so you know exactly what's going on back there and how often stuff gets changed out.

I thought the desserts were awesome. Almost all them are made in tiny 2-3 bite servings, so its fun to taste a lot of different ones!

I would not hesitate to go back to Boma.

Boma is the restaurant we end every trip with. We try to go every year.
The gnger carrot soup is very good, rich but not overly sweet. I agree the desserts are the best. I also like the fact most of them are small so you can try a variety. The beautiful atmosphere don't hurt either.

Boma was one of the nicer buffets I had at WDW. With that said though, I don't think I would go back. Me and my kids are picky eaters and there wasn't alot that we ate. The thing that stands out the most was the carved meat..that and the sauces were really good.

We didn't love it. ONLY because we didn't care for the particular spices/seasonings they use in a lot of their dishes. A lot of the *savory* dishes were very sweet, and all of the meats seem to have the same flavor. And I think DH and I are the only 2 people who actually didn't love Zebra Domes...some maybe we are just odd.:upsidedow
The other desserts were delicious and there were plenty of choices for our kids.
I am glad that we tried it but it just wasn't our thing. :) The foods were hot and fresh and the service was excellent.

Boma is my family's very favorite meal and we're a family of non-adventurous eaters. My boys love it so much they asked if we could go there twice next trip! :goodvibes There is such a variety of food and they are very helpful at answering questions about the food. There really is something for everyone and the desserts are to die for. we always get there early so we can go out and explore the resort and animal watch while we're waiting for our ADR time. It makes for a great night!

Boma is a must do for us each trip. It's probably my favorite place on property to eat (for the food)..I love Crystal Palace b/c my daughter has such a great time w/ Pooh and friends. But, yes, Boma has a wonderful buffet. They sometimes have my favorite soup - coconut curry seafood/chicken. I love all the unique spices and for someone who is lactose intolerant they have a lot of options. Last summer, my parents and brother were with us. My mom and brother are very very picky eaters, yet they really enjoyed it!

AKL is a great place to walk around, as well. We enjoy visiting the animals after dinner and strolling the grounds. We have always had excellent service. They seem to have a fantastic dessert selection. I know my family enjoys it. The chefs have always made me a really nice sorbet, since all the desserts on the buffet have dairy.

Always great food and a great time. :thumbsup2

Sorry to say this was one of the meals I looked most forward to but didn't like.
Not that it was bad, just not our style. The spices that are used are more sweet than spicey or hot. So much cinnamon and ginger type seasoning. Everything had a sweet flavor to it as the PP mentioned. Even the meat was sweet and that was to much for me. I can eat any type of beef, but for it to be sweet just didn't sit well.

I can say the foods were fresh and had flavor just not things I like and this was used as our "adventure" meal. DH is more of a veggie person and even he thought everything was to sweet to really satisfy as a dinner.

We ate quite a bit off the childrens part after trying 90% of the dishes, trying to find enough to fill our bellies, but we weren't to successful. I am glad DW offers such options for us but we won't be back there.

I loved Boma! They had the most amazing peanut rice when I was there. And the salmon they had was delicious!! I had 2 soups also. I only remember the seafood one, I think it was a gumbo, it was ok. The other one was better, I just don't remember what it was. I wish I could remember all the desserts I had casue they were mostly good, especially the Zebra Domes. Can't wait to go back in September!!

Count us as "odd" too...we didn't like Boma dinner at all. Way too much cinnamon in everything - seems to be the predominant flavor. Agree that Zebra domes were "meh" to us, but then we don't care for Kahlua (nothing against booze...just don't like that flavor.)

Boma breakfast, now that's one fine meal:thumbsup2

I didn't care much for the Zebra Domes either.

Now the Pineapple Upside-Down Cheesecake, that's where it's at!!!:thumbsup2

Another vote for carrot ginger soup. I will agree that a lot of things were on the sweet side, but I guess that didn't bother me. I liked being able to sample some unusual things in small portions, and found plenty to enjoy. DO be sure to go early enough that you have time to go outside to observe the animals.

BOMA is a must do every trip. Love the butternut squash soup and the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce. Nice assortment at the carving station. Never been disappointed in any of their soups. There were also side dish that was similar to mashed sweet potatoes and the "Kool Slaw" that was great. Oh, can't forget the Victoria Falls cocktail!!!

We liked the food at Boma. The Bobotie, vegetable couscous and seafood chowder were some of our favorites. The atmosphere left much to be desired. Very loud and I felt crowded at my table.

There are pictures and my thoughts on my blog (link in signature). When you get to the main page the link for restaurant reviews is on the right hand side of the page. Just click on that and go to Boma.

Hope this helps some. :)

We have not eaten at Boma but we have done the culinary tour there. At about 4pm each day right before the restaurant opens, one of the CMs at Boma takes guests through the restaurant on a tour. You don't have to book anything, just show up if you want. The CM was very friendly and told us the reasons why the restaurant was designed the way it is. She also took us through each station of the buffet and described the items and talked about how popular they are in Africa (she said that every woman in Africa had to know how to make the one dish or no man would marry her...lol).

We were each given a sample of our choice of soup and a zebra dome dessert as we toured. It was very nice and interesting and we got to really learn about what was in the food and take a good look at it. Although we enjoyed the tour, after seeing the upclose look at the food, these were not things that I would enjoy as a meal.

So, if you are unsure, you could go on the tour and if it doesn't look very good, just go eat somewhere else. If it does look good, book it!

Oh, there is also no cost for the tour and you don't have to be a guest at the hotel or even a guest on disney property.

I really looked forward to Boma, but we weren't all that thrilled with it. Waited 45 minutes past our ADR time, lines for food were really long, food was just okay. Glad we gave it a try, but won't go back.

Boma is my DS (16) fav rest. He loves the carrot ginger soup. (Be forwarned, the dishes change so that soup might not be on the buffett every night). No matter though, they always have a great variety of soups and you can try them all. I say go for it!
It's the type of place where you can try things you may normally not. Grab a small bit of this and that. You'll love some, and not like others. No worries! You can go back for more of what you like. Although we do eat the meats (and they are good), we tend to like Boma for the more unusual salads, breads, dips etc. I can get carved meat anywhere. I personally love the grapefruit and avacdo salad and the watermelon rind salad. If you go PLEASE don't be afraid to try new things. Have fun!

Great info everyone! Thanks so much. I think this will be a step up from Tusker House with the bonus that we won't lose valuable park time in the "off-season"!

Anyone else want to list their favorite dishes?

We love Boma, too much choice to pick out individual dishes and they do change the selection.
