Tell Me About Boma & Jiko

Having never been to AKL, I have never been to either of these resturants.

But we are staying there this Sept!

So tell me about the 2 resturants. Love, Hate, Good, Bad, give me the run down.

Are they both ok for kids? I have a very well behaved DS who will be 3 when we go.

I just hit my 180 window, so I am starting to make my ADRs!

Boma is an extensive buffet with African themed food. Its a pretty good buffet, although I don't think it lives up to the rave reviews it gets here (but plenty of people give it raves). Its perfectly appropriate for a three year old - although being a buffet, you'll need to juggle his plate and yours. There is a pod of kid food (chicken fingers, mac n cheese). The soups are really good, and they usually have a few meat choices, an extensive number of salads, hummus, couscous, and several desserts. I'd go back if we were staying at AKL.

Jiko I also didn't have great luck with - but my husband LOVED. I suspect I ordered wrong and will be giving it another chance at some time. Its a much more expensive restaurant - one of the "finer" restaurants at WDW. Most people haven't had problems with their kids - we had a waiter who wasn't friendly - whether it was our kids he disapproved of or if he was the one bad waiter at Jiko, I don't know. A meal here will be leisurely - keep that in mind when taking a younger child.

I have eaten at both and thought that Boma was good, but Jiko was GREAT! They're totally different restaurants, so you really can't compare the two. We had an AWESOME server at Jiko, which really made all the difference in the world! Here's a website that has all of the menus under the Dining section:

My family loves Boma and Jiko. They are always on our list for ADRs for each WDW trip.

I love Jiko's. It's one of my WDW faves!!!! It possible try an appetizer, it's a great way to get a taste of something different. The food is absolutely wonderful.

Boma's is certainly okay, just not in the same category as Jiko's (I'm not big on buffets).

Love JIKO...have had just flatbread pizza and that amazing cucumber, onion & tomatoe salad with the watermelon dressing and a few of their entrees. I was disappointed that they no longer have the monkfish on the menu but they're salmon is excellent as well. Next, I need to try the filet. We've been there 3 or 4 times and everytime has been a great experience.

DD enjoys it as well. She's been going since she was 5. Jiko is fine for kids and has a kid friendly menu...dd discovered salad here!! what a great discovery!! They have a salad on the kid's menu she loves. A seat by the window is especially nice as there is a pond that the ducks occasionally swim around in. We've been trying to get a seat at the open kitchen bar area but so far no luck, but we keep trying!! Can't think of any negatives here.

Boma, never been so can't give any opinions but it's ALWAYS crowded so something has to be good about it.

We have eaten at Boma & Jiko many times and enjoyed them both. Jiko is our favorite place in all of WDW to eat. The food and service are excellent. We always start with one of the flatbreads and then enjoy one of there fantastic entrees. We stayed at the AKL for the first time last Sept/Oct and just loved it. We had a savannah room and it was really nice. It was so relaxing to sit out on the balcony in the morning with my coffee and just enjoy watching the animals.

We love Jiko! We've never been to Boma though. We have been to Jiko many times. It's a must do for us every trip (at least once, lol). Dd has always been welcomed there, it's WDW after all, and you will see plenty of families with kids.

Excellent food, and a great wine list--all South African wines. Be sure to try them. Desserts are wonderful too!
