Tell me about April

So we leave for what I've told others will be our final trip to WDW for some time on Tuesday, and I'm already depressed about coming home. So with that in mind I'm starting to let thoughts creep in about scheduling another trip. The best time for us would be April next year over our April vacation. I'm a teacher so I can't take any other time to go.

How is April when it's not near Easter? Easter is in March so that's not a concern, but I would imagine other schools in the country are on vacation as well. So how are the crowds generally? How about the weather? Any reason to totally avoid except that our plane tickets will be ridiculous? TIA!

Crowds are thicker than you would expect. Weather is terrific!

Crowds can be a little more populated because of all the schools being out. I completely understand having to go at this time because of being a teacher. The weather is fantastic at this time. The only negative we had going at this time was my mom (a teacher) ran into one of her students while doing laundry at the resort. When she came back to the room she looked like she had just seen a ghost! HAHA Enjoy your trip!

We went in early April a couple of years ago for our honeymoon, and the crowds weren't bad until our last day (which was April 11th, I believe). The weather was perfect though!

I think you hit on the key point - when is Easter and how close is it to your dates? (from a crowd perspective, you especially want to avoid each of the weeks before and after Easter).

Next year is probably as good a year as ever to go in April because Easter is in March. And generally, the later in April the better (because as the month progresses, there are fewer school districts having spring breaks, particularly in years when Easter is early).

Weather should be really good.

In short, when Easter is in March, April is one of the very best months to go to WDW (particularly mid to late April).

Depending on what you want to know:
- It's a month of the year usually found between March and May
- A very nice girl that I went to high school with
- April showers bring May flowers

Warm and beautiful IMO. We are going in April and we are bringing ponchos!! Rain is possible every day but we will bring sunscreen. Larger crowds but with Easter early not as bad as some years. We Like going in April

Here's my take - after 2 visits in early Dec and 3 in early Feb, I took a gamble on April this year. The short answer here is: I'm booked to go back next April!

This year, I was there during Massachusetts Spring Break Week (Sat 4/18 - Fri 4/24), and I was somewhat concerned about crowds, but it really wasn't bad. No, it's not the "empty parks/walk-on rides" that people wax lyrical about, but I'd call the crowd levels moderate, and found them mostly fine and manageable. The only time I really thought, gee whiz it's crowded! was Tuesday evening at MK (it was a recommended park day on EasyWDW) - but I'm convinced that MK is generally a madhouse these days anyway because it's the one park EVERYONE wants to be at.

The big shock to me was the DOWNPOUR at AK one afternoon. It had started while I was in the Nemo show, so I kind of got chucked into it without warning. I learned that a) there aren't enough places to get out of the rain at AK, b) I need a pair of Keens, and c) I'm too clumsy to get myself into a dollar-store poncho. Seriously, I was so wet, I'd might as well have gone on Kali. I had a couple of heavy rains pass through at Epcot, too, but there are more places to get inside there. FOR THE MOST PART, the weather was beautiful, not too hot, and the rain really was limited in scope and duration.

I don't know what week you're looking at, but as PP have said, with Easter so early, next year should be good for April. I'm going 4/9-4/16 next year, and so far the completely unscientific polls make this sound like one of the less common weeks for Spring Break. The next week after that should be Massachusetts', and I've read things here about Passover breaks in NY, etc., the last week of April.

The punch line of this novel is, I am :thumbsup2 on April!

Thanks so much everyone! April is sounding more and more like it might work out for us!

Thank you so much for that! We will be going during Massachusetts's break since that's where we're from! :) One of our last trips was during February break over President's Day and the crowds were there, but we had a blast. I'm thinking April could be much the same!

I'm from far, far away from MA, and when I found out I was going during your spring break I thought, "What am I getting myself into?" ;) But I really was pleasantly surprised that crowds were better than expected. I'd go for it!
