My parents bought directly from DVC so I am familiar with their process but I am curious what the timeline is like after closing on a resale (which is the route we are taking). How long until your points are available? How long until you get all your membership info for logging in and making reservations? Does Disney send you a welcome packet with the planner and all that, or do you miss out on that for not buying through DVC? Anything else I need to know about?
I am just wondering what we should expect after the 6-8 weeks for closing.

Typically on a resale purchase, once the property closes it takes Disney 7 - 10 days to enter your information into their system. At that time you can start making your first reservation.

Within approximately 30 days after closing you will receive your Welcome Packet from DVC as well as your membership cards. After closing, your points are exactly the same as if you purchased them from Disney.

Enjoy your membership and Welcome Home!

Robert

I just closed on a resale through TSS (and Robert above was my agent), and the process went faster than expected. Once closed, I called about 48 hours later and my points were already in the system, so I was able to book a reservation then. Following that, I was connected with MS Administration who was able to give me the one-time PIN needed to log into the DVC member site. Less than three weeks later, I received my planning packet, and about five days after that (today, in fact), received my membership card. Granted, times will vary, but I have noticed on this board of late quite a few people will similar timelines to mine. Other than that, all your privileges are exactly the same as a member who bought directly through Disney (which I did with my first contract). I'm assuming congratulations are in order? :thumbsup2

I was able to book a reservation exactly a week after closing. We were not in the system as quickly as some people report, but it was still sooner than the 7-10 business days (but plan on the 7-10 days just in case). I think our planner and membership cards arrived within a month or so of closing. The CM helped get me set up on the website after I made our first reservation.
