Tell about your kindle

I bought my 3G/ wifi Kindle for $159 at Staples!!

I bought a $30 off $150 Staples in store coupon on ebay for $3.49(make sure to read the fine print)

Then I got a 3 year Square Trade warranty for $25 after found a 50% off coupon code on ebay for $3!

Did you get yours last summer? The latest Kindles that came out last summer have the Pearl E-ink. No comparison. So much sharper. The newest Sonys (Daily and Touch) also have the technology. Nook is the only one that doesn't.

I looked at both side by side before I bought and I thought the screen was every bit as nice as the Kindle.

That's a great deal!

I have a Nook and love it. I went with the Nook over the Kindle for a few reasons.

1. Uses the universal standard ePub format. This means you can buy from Borders, Barnes and Noble, Books A Million, etc. and can also use the ever expanding list of library books. If you want to buy a book from Amazon, you can download some scripts and strip the DRM encryption and reformat to ePub. (There are also sites you can download books from, but we won't go there.) With the Kindle, you're stuck getting all books from Amazon.

I'd like to point out that if you are technologically savvy enough to strip DRM to put stuff on a Nook, then you can strip it to put it on a Kindle in a .mobi format, which many sites like Project Gutenberg and Manybooks.net already offer. So you can strip the DRM from a library book and put it on your Kindle as easily as you can strip the DRM from a Kindle book to put on your Nook.

Bottom line, don't think removing DRM only works for a Nook! Whether or not you choose ethically to mess with DRM is your own business, but that is an option.

I just don't like people saying you can only get books from Amazon, since it's a falsehood and keeps getting propagated everywhere by Nook owners. Leaving the shady DRM area aside, I've gotten many free classics from Manybooks.net and just put them on via USB connection. I've done the same thing with some .pdf ebooks I had back in the day. I converted them to .mobi using Calibre and put them on. But in many cases you might not even have to go to an external site, as Amazon hosts free versions of some of the classics I grabbed from Manybooks that go right on via Whispernet.

Edited to add: I realized I made it sound like the Kindle couldn't read my .pdf ebooks. It can read pdf, but by converting into Mobi I was able to make it so I could scale the fonts and flip pages like a normal Kindle book. With the pdf I'd have to pan down the page and it doesn't load quite as fast, which is fine for documents but not for novels.

I just bought my kindle on Monday and already love it! It takes no time at all to learn how to use it and it's so easy to download a book from Amazon. One of my favorite things about it is that you can download the first chapter of a book for free to see if you think you will like the book.

I watched for deals on the Kindle for months, and the only one I have seen is the Best Buy offer with a cover/light for $189 for the Kindle with WIFI. I finally caved and bought it at Target after I spent the weekend with some friends who had nooks and kindles and kept telling me all the good things about it.

I hope you get one and enjoy it!

I ordered my Kindle today from Amazon! I got the 3G as we do alot of traveling. I am so excited:cool1: I will have more room in my suitcase without having the books in there. ;)
