Anyone else hate this as much as I do? I already hing up on 2 and lied that call waiting went off on a 3rd

They used to drive me crazy too until my state passed a no-call law that doesn't let them call you unless you give permission. We hardly ever get any annoying calls anymore. When we used to get them all the time, I would answer and as soon as I figured that is what it was, I would just say "no thank you" and hang up on them.

<font color=navy>Yesterday my phone went out, and I called AT&T to report the problem (from my cell). I had just told her that I was having a problem, and she immediately started asking me what long distance I was using, and why not change to AT&T, blah blah blah. I couldn't believe it.

I told her that I would like to fix the problem before she starts trying to sell me something else.

I got a call from a satellite dish company - on my CELL PHONE. I let him go on and on about the company and then he asked me who I get my TV through. It just so happened that I use the dish from his company. He was silent, apologized for bothering me and hung up. So, just tell them you already have whatever it is they're trying to sell.

I've faked call waiting beeps many times and it usually works

I had a good one a couple of weeks ago. My phone rang just before 9 pm. As soon as I realized it was a sale call, I told the caller that it was almost 9 and that I didn't appreciate getting sales calls at such a late hour. He started to say "Well, actually M'am, we're allowed to call up until..." I didn't even listen to the rest of his statement, I hung up. Would common sense say that if you are hoping to sell someone something, don't argue with them when they say they don't want calls at 9:00 pm? Did he think that I would say "well, in that case, give me two of whatever it is you selling!" From a customer service stand point, shouldn't the response be "I'm sorry. Let me make a note on our records that you don't want any calls after a certain time."

Personally, I won't call anyone close to or after 9 pm unless I know them well, and know that they will be up.

Yep, I hate them!

Why do they ALWAYS ring when we are relaxing having a meal...sometimes it pays to be on the Internet as they can't get through! We had a call last night, apparantly the guy just hung up on DH when he said he couldn't speak to me!

I'm ready to unplug my phone so I don't have to hear it ring. I never answer the phone any more. I just leave the recorder on. They can leave a message, which I'll delete any way, or they hang up.

even worse...I was teaching earlier and my cell went off...it was a telemarketer...she was offended when I told her I could not talk

Yes, I hate them. I believe there's a nationwide bill that's trying to get passed to not allow them to call. Of course, they're lobbying against it passing.

BUT, they said that as of 3/31 (next Monday), the part of the bill that deals with telemarketing companies "screening" your phone to see if you're home (by computer) so that they can call back in person when they know you're home, is supposed to take effect and prevent them from doing that much!

I guess we can be thankful for small favors...

I've told them I'm not home a lot, too. They ask for me, I ask who is calling, then I tell them "she's" not home. Sometimes I lie and say I'm not authorized to buy anything since I don't live here I'm just visiting. I know it's their job and everybody has to make a living, so I try to use these means of being nice, but still not talking to them. Some of them get rude, then I just get mean right back.

We got one of those "TeleZappers" and it has cut down the number of calls we get a LOT. No more of those "computer dialed" calls, although we still do get some calls from companies who have our names on a call list.

I generally don't bother to talk to them. If I do happen to get one that I don't screen through Caller Id, I just hang up.

Politeness is futile. They are following a script and have an answer for any words that you might throw at them. I figure it's better to quit wasting their time and to let them move on to some sucker who might actually buy something from them. :)

I hate telemarketing calls. We unplug the phone for dinner -- friends & family know they can reach us on our cell phones. I can't wait for the nationwide telemarketing bill to go into effect.
