Telemarketer called last night. I was in the middle of baking cookies and told her I was too busy to talk. She said it will only take 3 or 4 minutes. I said again I'm busy. She then said you don't sound busy. I ended the call....

I'm sorry but this made me LOL. Glad you ended the call.

Got a call from a charity last night....they asked for a pledge. I asked her to send some information in the mail. She said she would, but she just wanted a pledge. I said, again, please send your information in the mail, I'll review it and talk with my wife, and if we agree to make a pledge I would be happy to do so. She says, "But I want a pledge right now." And I said, I understand but that's not how my family operates. "Well, that is silly," she said, "you should be man enough to be able to make a pledge."

It was on like donkey kong, then....

Newt Gringrich called me today, wanted me to donate $75. to $100 for his cause. Uh...nope! :rotfl:

Alsobrook - this one made me laugh too. Some just won't give up.

I haven't had a landline in many many years now, but when I did and got a telemarketer, I'd just hang right up without saying a word. I didn't ask them to call me and I don't owe them any explanation. Giving them any sort of excuse just allows them to come right back at you with their response. *click*

That telemarketer is doing just what her/his employer telling him to do to keep their job. been there and hated it especially around holidays made it even worse. :worship: have to make so many calls a day and if you can talk a minute then is considered a count call. regular hang ups are not. I am retired now but I do try to go easy on them as know what they going thru and jobs are scarce. IF possible I get name of company and then contact them :thumbsup2 if it has not stopped with the no call list sign up and some don't:confused3

caller id is your friend.

Sometimes if I would see an unknown number, i pick up and i make up a funny accent or copy what they say. then there is always Mr. Airhorn if people get rude, or put the tv music channel on some classical and put down the phone.

It's one thing for the telemarketer to try to be assertive and want to score, however, you don't get to be rude with me after calling me on my phone.

A friend of mine who worked in a call center told me this, so now if I accidentally answer the phone and get a telemarker instead of just hanging up I will generally start talking......not allow them to get a word in edge wise. Things along the line of "I'm not so good this evening but thanks for asking. You know, I overslept because I stayed up too late, forgot to set the alarm and then when I jumped out of bed I stepped in cat yack, do you no how disgusting cat yack feels between your toes? (here I pause for like 5 seconds) this is where they usually hang up, if they don't then I will go into great detail about how disgusting it is. If that doesn't work I will start to regale them with details of my female issues or weird coworkers:lmao:

I do try to have fun with telemarketers.

"We'd love to sign up for that, but our cat is a libertarian."

"You're selling windows and doors? We don't have any windows or doors. We live in a cave. We spelunk down every evening."

"Satellite dish? I don't believe in the technology. If there is no wire coming into my house, it cannot be real."

"We don't sell lobsters to the public."

:goodvibes

I still have a landline, but my cell phone is the only phone I get telemarketing calls on these days. I just tell them it's a cell phone and their burning up my minutes, goodbye.

Useless here in California, more people in California have their ID blocked than any other state. If it's a blocked call, it almost always is a call I NEED to answer because its my parents, my inlaws, my friends. I do screen my calls via the answering machine though, so if you call, you better leave a message, if I am here, I will pick it up.

I have caller ID, and I often screen my calls using it. If its an out-of-state number I don't recognize, or has no caller ID, I let it go to voice mail.

Tonight it was an out-of-state number calling, and the identification on it said "Phone Scam".

Seriously???? :rotfl2: Scams are now registering themselves with caller ID?

I had a salesperson hang up on me once. They were selling insurance, and I was trying to see what kind - business or personal, because he said it was group insurance. He explained and then said, "but it doesn't sound like you are interested" and hung up! He's not a very good salesperson.....

Then the entire industry needs to change it's way of business so rudeness isn't part of the culture and/or you aren't rewarded for hassling people.

So....

Why are there so many people on this thread still getting telemarketing calls? Besides calls for donations from the Police and Firefighter unions, I don't get any telemarketing calls since going on the Do Not Call list years ago. :confused3
