A couple of years ago, we gave our daughter a year's membership in PETA for her 13th birthday. After reviewing some of the literature they sent every month, (pamphlets with very graphic photos of abused animals that I would throw in the trash before my daughter could see them), we decided not to renew her membership.
Our phone rang one evening and I picked it up, and the person on the other end wanted to speak to my daughter. Since I didn't recognize the voice, I asked who was calling. The person said they were from PETA and asked again to speak to my daughter. I told them they would have to speak to me first and tell me what they were calling about. I explained that my daughter was 13 and I wasn't comfortable about the situation. The woman got all huffy and said that it was my daughter's name on the membership and that it didn't matter HOW old she was, but she would HAVE to talk to her, not me.
I told the woman that it mattered to me, and I asked her not to call again. She never did.
