Teens rejected from Prom

nothing is wrong with those dresses...wonder who was behind banning them??? Would love to know.

It was one particular female teacher, I forget her name. She was head of the senior prom committee.

Probably the church lady. :goodvibes

Anyone notice the pregnant student. Wonder if that played a factor also.

I could see the dresses being an issue if this was a private school or a Christian/Catholic school but I don't recall seeing that it was. Maybe I should go back and re-read the article. What do they expect these girls to wear, these are the styles out in the stores.

Well, I was honestly expecting something slutty. But as a person who dresses quite conservatively (relatively speaking)...I would have worn these to my prom and I wouldn't hesitate to where something similar (but age appropriate) today.

I guess they could have worn a habit. Nothing says formal like dressing like a penguin.:confused3

Viewing the slide show--I am curious as to what frocks the ladies had on who were not refused admission. :confused3

I think the entire prom section at our local Dillard's would have not been allowed.

I was thinking the same thing after seeing the selection in 3 different stores last night!!

I thought they were all ok. I was amused by the one girl in the "flasher" pose though, given what had apparently just happened ;)

I had to go back and figure out what you were talking about. I didn't take that as a flasher pose. More like the photog said, " can I see your dress?" and she showed him/her.

Now I think those look fine...some are a bit ugly but not too revealing.

Now I thought they would look like that Kelly Pickler number...Now that I would have said NO WAY!!!

I also came into the thread prepared to defend the school and thinking that many girls dress so immodestly...but I saw nothing wrong with the dresses either!

The picture of nine of them...there's one in the very center, in the white dress that appears to be completely backless...okay, maybe that's a bit much...but I didn't really see anything wrong with the rest of them. Especially the one with the white shirt and black top - that girl had a jacket with hers! I can't imagine how she could be any more covered :confused3 and the rest seems pretty normal prom dress to me. No one was "falling out" if you get my drift. What did the girls wear who were NOT turned away?

I am truly mystified by this story. I am about the biggest prude you can think of when it comes to girls' clothing, and I didn't see anything objectionable about those dresses.

I grew up in a city with a huge Mormon population - I've seen conservative Mormon girls wearing less, and with the full blessings of their parents!

:scared1: is that a shadow or a 5 o'clock shadow?

the other ones aren't too bad.

Oh, I'm sure she wasn't trying to "flash" the camera! I just found it amusing in relation to the story. :)

I just realized that I think my dd's Disney costumes in my siggy pic are too risque for this school! LOL

I'm with you on this.

I teach at a high school and there was a girl last year who SHOULD NOT have been allowed in. Her dress was basically a large, long , lime green rectange covering her rear, a skinny - like four inches wide, long rectange from her bikini area to the ground and two thin strips like two inches wide, covering (barely) her chest. Everything else was shimmery strings. Her whole back, her chest area down to her navel, everything was all open. From the side, she looked like she wasn't wearing anything (except those shimmery strings). When I saw pictures with her in the back, I was so angry they let her in. Four of her dresses could have made one of these dresses here. They're not really elegant, tasteful or cute, but not banned from prom material.

Those dresses looked like all the prom dresses in the store. I cant imagine what the girls allowed in looked like--nuns!!!

I think that the problem with most of those girls and their dresses was just simply bad taste. Most of them should NOT be wearing such unflattering dresses.

I do have to applaud them all though, they must have a secure body image to wear such dresses. I know that I would not be able to pull off those dresses with confidence.

I saw worse than that at my prom last year! I think those dresses are hideous, but if they're denied prom -- some people need to be denied leaving their houses. :sad2: Those are mild compared to some...

Seriously, those dresses are nothing compared to the one I wore to my senior prom.:lmao:

As others have posted, what in the world did the ones that were allowed in wear?!

I'm about as modest as they come, and I didn't see anything wrong with the dresses.

On a side note, while I wouldn't want to wear Kelly Pickler's dress, can I have her stomach, please.
