Teens ordering off the kids' menu

Well at WCC my 17 year old sister ordered the kid's skillet and got charged kids praice when I(13) ordered the adult one. We ate the same so I guess I dunno

Double charging for kids meals is totally random..We were double charged for chicken fingers at Konas last week but the portion was huge! My son couldn't finish them!!My son who is 11, usually looks at both menus, then decides which one to order from...we are usually not double charged and I haven't been told he couldn't order off the kids menu. :goodvibes

We are having a hard time deciding on ADR's for this trip because I have an 11 year old who is very picky. I wanted to eat at Cinderella's Castle for dinner on my birthday, but there is nothing on the adult menu that she will eat. I have decided to try LTT because they do have turkey, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese which are things that she will eat. There aren't that many TS restaurants that offer food she likes (on the adult menu). It looks like we will be eating a lot of counter service on this trip.

Could the 15 yo eat an appetizer for a main meal? I find the kid's meals higher in fat, calories, etc. and are not the best tasting. What about splitting a plate or ordering off the main menu and bring the rest to the room for others to share?

I bring 1/2 back with me (I cut it before utensils enter my mouth) for my son and husband to snack on later.

I know what you're going through. We go through the same thing with our 11 year old grandson. Since we are doing the dining plan next week, we plan to ask for side servings; i.e., baked potatoe, french fries and if he wants an appetizer and/or soup that's OK. Most restraurants will let you purchase side orders. We took him in July and most places were accommodating. The places where he ordered off of the adult menu (LTT ) there was too much food for him and 1/2 went into the trash. Do you think this is why disney changed the age limit, because they like seeing us waste food....seems strange doesn't it. We did take him to Trails end and paid adult price ($10.99) but was worth it because they have children friendly food. We plan to take our GS to CRT for my birthday dinner and hope we can find something for him to eat or at least snack on until we can get him a burger (we will gladly just order him a plate of french fries if that's what he wants and ice cream, of course). These new changes certainly do not encourage healthy eating habits does it?

i don't think a 15 and 17 yr old should be ordering off a kids menu that says it is for a certain age ( ie up to 12 or 10 or 9) sometimes the meals are the same size but priced less to imo helpout families. i am sure they would have made an "adult" burger for the 17 yr old maybe charging the lunch price (9.99) and the 15 yr old ordered something she could have ordered from an adult menu as there are usually smaller steaks( 7 oz in this case, an oz more than the kids) but didn't. i agree if they can't eat it all either order just an appe, split it or go to some place that doesn't have an age limit for smaller meals. ( ie the afromentioned kids of all ages at Cracker Barrel) i think it might be viewed differently if someone doesn't like any thing onthe adult menu or maybe doesn't eat meat and the only mac and cheese is on the kids menu but in this case they ordered something they could have ordered on the adult menu but wanted a smaller/cheaper price.

i think it is smiliar to passes...just cause a child or adult is short or doesn't like certain rides, once they reach a certain age they pay for an adult pass. they have to have a cut off someplace and there always is going to be some one who would rather they didn't have to pay the larger price.

and for those with 11 yr old boys..in a few years they will (probably)be eating enough to sink a ship and you'll get more than your money's worth from any buffet :teeth:

My 11 yr is extremely morally conscious (no I'm not complaining) and he won't order off the kids menu if it says it's for kids younger than him. For example, at Outback Steakhouse, it's 10 and under. He weighs 55 lbs and looks like an 8 yr old, so servers always give him a kids menu. I always tell him, if they give you a kids menu it's implied consent and you may order from the kids menu. At Outback, he avoided the problem of not wanting to order from the kids menu and me saying NO way was I going to pay for an adult meal for him by ordering Coconut Shrimp appetizer.
I totally understand charging based on age at a buffet, even though it makes it a bad deal for me to take DS11 to buffets, but if I want a small dinner and I order a small dinner I should pay a small price anything else is simply price gouging. Why should anyone be forced to buy a bigger meal than they want in order to not be ripped off when obesity (and believe me I'm pretty chubby myself) is such a nationwide problem?

Were you told that you would be double charged when you ordered the chicken fingers?

Problem is that if you look at the menu of places like California Grill, Narcoosees, Chef de France, Flying Fish etc. there is nothing there that he likes. My DD is a teen and can eat anywhere but DS is 13 and only wants very plain food and likes things like pizza, chicken fingers, mac and cheese, hamburgers etc. He will have steak once but only once. This was never an issue with us before because he always ordered off the kids meal and there was no problem. I don't mind paying double on a kids meal as long as the amount of food represents what you pay. Too bad they don't have a teen price and portion for the foods most teens like to eat. If this is a problem when we arrive at Disney I think DH and I will leave kids in room for a night with room service( they LOVE this) and we will dine alone. We spend a lot of $ on dining and I hate to limit our selection of restaurants because son can't eat what teens like. Thankfully they can eat the kids food at the buffets at Bomas and Cape May etc. Disney really makes out when they charge adult prices for 10year olds eating at a buffet. Ds at 13 does eat an adult portion at buffets so fine with me to pay the price:)

We found on our last stay that some places charged the kid price and others told us they would charge us ala cart pricing ( Be our guest, Kona). Didn't matter to us but we never tried to be sneaky about it just said that he preferred the food on that menu. I didn't think it was double but maybe - I know it was more.
