Teens and Disney

I am afraid its nearing the end. My kids do not get excited about disney anymore

Anyone else have teens that have lost intrerest? Is there any hope? Will they ever get it back?

My son who is now an adult (but will always be my baby) lost interest at about age 12. He hated the thought of going to vist Mickey Mouse. Thank goodness at around age 17 he came to hs senses.

DD on the other hand is refusing to come on the next trip. Siting some dribble like schoolwork coming first I do not know who raised these kids?

DD13 is very excited about our next trip. Maybe we're just lucky? Nah, our kids are worse Disney freaks than we are. DS asked me when he was seven which career should he pick if he wanted the best chance of getting a job at Disney. This is the same kid that was very disappointed to discover that he probably wouldn't get to choose the location of the wedding, but they could go to WDW for their honeymoon if he wanted.

My DD loves the thought of going to WDW, but once we're there, she's kinda, how do I say it???? - a pain in the rear?

She simply doesn't have the Disney freak gene in her. I swear I took the wrong one home from the nursery.

OMG! I can't understand how anyone could NOT get excited about Disney! We went often growing up, but my parents also took me when I was in highschool, and I was able to bring a friend along. I can remember being so excited and loving every minute of it! Hopefully they are just in a rut and will soon see the light! Long live Mickey!!

My boys are 14 and 17 and we are leaving for WDW in less than 2 weeks Anyway, they still seem pretty interested in going to Disney. I keep asking them if they are going to get there, be bored and then whine about coming home to be with their friends (my biggest fear), and they tell me no. They say there is so much to do, they won't get bored.

We are the kind of family that likes to "do" stuff on vacation. The last few years we've done beach vacations, which are nice, but I know my kids get bored there. We also don't go to Disney every year, only every 3-4 years, so that may help also.

DD is 13 and had absolutely NO interest in any of the planning for our trip last March. Would give no input and was just a real pill every time I brought it up. I told her at the time that I would make the decisions and since she hadn't spoken up before, she'd better not be speaking up once we got there!

Well, I was shocked but she had a great time and it was just so much fun to be around her! WDW makes her act like a kid again and that's one of my favorite parts about going there.

Of course, I did hear, "Why are we eating HERE?" "Why are we doing THAT?" but one sideways look from me and she hushed!

I'm 13 and I went to WDW for the first time last March, and I LOVED it!!!! Needless to say, know they're going to have to bring me every year, or I'll be very mad. My sister is 17 and she has NO interest in anything to do with it. She came to get a tan and wear a bikini 4 monthes early. My brother however is 19, and he is coming next year and is SO excited to go. He's wanted to go for YEARS, but he never has...and now he's going to make up for it!!

I remember my DD 2 yrs ago said to me while walking through Epcot..... Mom, I'll never get sick of this place. I hope it's true. But she's only 12 .

My 13 yo DD and I are going again in less than two weeks. We have fun trips, and she likes that it's one place that she gets to be in charge. She decides most of what we do while we're there, though I do chime in occasionally.

We were planning a different vacation for next summer, a week at a resort on the Southern CA coast with a few days at DL and California Adventure for the 50th. I mentioned to her that I had an e-mail about the new attractions at WDW next summer, guess where we're going?

Don't think she's going to get bored with it anytime soon. I figure in a couple of years she will start taking a friend. She will probably have more independence there than she does at home. That's always a selling point!

Well, my 15 y/o (Hi Juli) flips between wanting to go and not wanting to go. She told my sister that she just went to Disneyland so she doesn't need WDW.

I will drag my kids there! How can they not be excited at 2 and 6 though! I want to move to Orlando!

I never lost the love for WDW. I'm 17, and still am wicked obsessed, obviously. My sister though is 13 and sort of has to be dragged to WDW. She'd be perfectly happy to go away to a beach for a week and just lie there staring at the guys, getting a tan. I swear she's not really my sister. But then again I'm the only obsessed one in the family . She goes to WDW, but not willingly. And we have to make a lot of compromises (riding Tomorrowland Speedway just for her, etc).

Some of these threads give me hope...I have an 11 year old...He will be 12-13 on our next trip. Hope he never outgrows it. Now for the next question...Do any of these teenagers get autographs or pose for pictures with characters? I hate to give that up.

I'm going to be 20 and I haven't ever lost interest in Disney! I think I get more excited now than I did when I was little. I've been going to Disneyland since I was 5 and will be going to my first WDW trip with my family now that I'm almost 20. I'll never lose interest in Disney. I don't see how anyone could not be excited? It's beyond me..

We have a DS 16 and DD 14. Over the years they've "evolved" as far as focus in WDW. In the early years it was the characters, the toys, the pizza, and BUYING STUFF. Now it is the attractions, the sun, the beaches, experimenting with food choices, and the independence we allow them off and on during the trip.
EPCOT experiences are now tolerated and character breakfasts are not.
Beauty and the Beast Show is out and the comedy act on Sunset Blvd. is in.
Life changes and my DH and I are glad WDW offers so many different facets for changing tastes. (meanwhile DH and I have reverted back to things like the Jungle Cruise and Tiki Birds!!).

We haven't been on our yearly family vacation to Disney since Feb. 2001 because DS who is not 17 didn't enjoy it. He really enjoyed it from age 5-13, but we could see the excitement fading the last couple of trips. DH and I just LOVE Disney and plan to go back yearly when DS goes to college next year. We are going for a month to make up for all the lost time!

I'm 16 amd have never lost interest in Disney. I'd go to WDW in a heartbeat! But it's not just WDW, I also still watch Disney animated films quite often.
