teenage girl clothing budget?

I have to agree with just buying a few basic outfits and then waiting until after school starts to buy the rest. When my daughter made this transition, all of sudden, the clothes she thought she wanted weren't the ones she did. :confused3

My daughter is 14 and she wouldn't be caught dead wearing Hollister, Aereopostle, etc. Not saying that's true for all kids. . .I see lots of girls in those brands. She prefers Volcom and band shirts from Hot Topic, etc. Some of the local thrift stores get Volcom overstocks. . .score!! I've convinced her that Walmart has some great band shirts. . .and she can buy several when they aren't $20 a piece. ;) She has a friend that is one of those eclectic, fashionable thrift store shoppers. So now she is getting into that. . .Hey Mom. Goodwill rocks! :cool1:

if anyone is interested, JCPenney is having a buy one, get one for $0.88 sale. DD and i go every year. we just got back a few minutes ago, and we got lots of cute t-shirts and blouses, and a pair of cargo shorts. and we only spent $73.00!

Rainbow flip flops last about a year of nearly daily wear and have reasonable arch support. Nordstroms carries them. D pays for about half herself....but they really are worth it.

I know I'm far off from being a teen, but I absolutely LOVE American Eagle's jeans. They are seriously the only jeans that fit me right. I'm on the short side (5'1) and pre-pregnancy I was about 125-130. Their size 4 fit my bubble butt and muscley legs without being too terribly big around the waist. I'd have to wear a belt most days but that's not a big deal. The length is also perfect. I actually wore size 6's today to my 38 week appointment and they still fit fabulously. They're good quality too, one pair lasts me about 2-3 years, and I'm tough on jeans. I came off my horse wearing a pair last year and even though I landed in gravel, they didn't get torn up at all. As far as shirts go, I love Hollister's polo shirts and I love Old Navy's tanks. American Eagle has some really cute button downs too, I pair those with a tank top and leave the shirt unbuttoned. Give me some flipflops and I'm good to go!

What are Rainbow shoe's?

Just some brand name flip flops. But they really are nice quality and last a long time!

Check the website listed above. They have some on sale for $23 which is better than $60 (which they are normally):scared1: I bought 2 pair of the pink ones!

I have tried to teach my girls that your clothing style is about YOU not what everyone else wears. I do not buy expensive school clothes. Especially jeans. Wal-mart or Old Navy jeans fit just as well as the more expensive brands. I just wont buy them.

My oldest wears the same outfit every day in varrying colors. Jeans, a tank top with an Aeropostal polo over it... sperrys or flip flops. YAWN. It does vary to jean or khaki shorts in the fall and spring though.

My younger daughter's taste is wilder.. she puts crazy wild outfits together. (skirts over jeans.. ect... wow. ) and as long as it is modest? I let her go nuts

I would say $200 is a good number to start her out since she is starting fresh. What I would do is let her get one outfit for the first day.. and then take her shopping after she sees what is in style at her school

Have to agree with purchasing just a few basics before school starts and letting your DD see what everyone is wearing. Hopefully, she'll have her own style, but probably will want to be a bit trendy, too. :)

Definitely check with her school regarding footwear--some are strict, others aren't.

Also, shop her closet and see what fits and what doesn't. Repurpose or dispose of what doesn't fit--and that includes underwear! If she hasn't already learned to coordinate separates and accessories, now is a good time to experiment. You get so much more mileage for your money with good separates (that can include jeans and t-shirts!) than random purchases.

DD really likes the khaki pants from Aeropostal. Her school does have a uniform/dress code but as long as they are the khaki color or black or navy it doesn't matter what brand. If anyone sees a coupon or sale going on please post as she will have to have all new school pants for this upcoming year! Wow the grow fast! She turns 13 in August and will be in 8th grade!

Check out Hollister right now. They have the Hollister t-shirts that the kids wear for $6-$7 ON SALE. I bought both my girls several.

We went there today and bought 7 shirts for $47, including tax!! Some were marked to $7 and some were $5. I have to say, I would have never bought anything from there because they're so expensive, and I usually stick to JC Penney, Aero, and Ross for back to school shopping. We went into Hollister so my DD could buy her friend a B-Day gift, and we ran into many mark down tables. So we went ahead and bought some for back to school. It's still early for school shopping, but I couldn't pass up that deal!

Do all the miss me jeans have sparkes? I think they are super cute and I would love to buy a pair for DD but I don't think she would get a lot of wear out of sparkley jeans.
