Can anyone tell me anything about this please?...Iam thinking of signing my DS16 up for it in July....All I know is its 9-12.30 and its $90...That seems a long time..Are they in the ocean all that time?...Is it very well supervised?9iam nervous anout the currents/sharks)

Anything at all to tell me ....:)

Thanks!

All I can tell you for sure is that they will not run the program if there's a rip tide issue, nor would there with sighting of sharks nearby. I think your fears might be a bit to great -- while anything could happen, Disney puts safety first and foremost.

From what I have read the lessons are at Lou Maresca's Surf School and take place at the Fort Pierce Inlet Park. Click here to go to their site.

They only offer it one day a week right now (Thurs 8:45am-12:30pm) although that might change for the summer, so be sure to call ahead to the resort to check that out! There is another place offering surf lessons (there was an ad up at Mulligans Restaurant) but I didn't see any surf boards for rent anywhere... which was a real bummer since there was great surf right outside the hotel, from our balcony we saw several locals (I think) surfing out there in the morning.

I wouldn't worry about sharks out there at all. As far as the time frame, it will probably go by quickly for him, but I'm sure he can sit out on the beach and observe it he gets tired. Unlike Hawaii the wave breaks are close to shore, so he won't be too far out.

Rob is spot on (as usual:thumbsup2)! Our families did the surf school (not through VB) and it was simnpley GREAT!!! My 6 year old actually surfed! Call them directly #1 cheaper and #2 can arrange any day of your trip.

They do surf by Ft Pierce inlet just to north side of the jetty. Beach and water was very shallow, at least it was in february 09, for a good deal (walking off shore).

We are going to do it again this Summer August '09

We'll be in VB in August also. This looks like something my boys would love. They are 12, 10, and 8. From the website link (thanks Rob!) it looks like the one day lesson is from 9:30-2:30. Is this what your family did? Did it seem like a long time? How far is the Ft. Pierce Inlet from VB?

Thanks,

Barbara

Maybe a 20/25 min drive. Nice easy drive... there is a luch place outside the inlet gate called Sharky's (? or something like that) which is very good.

9:30 - 2:30 went by VERY fast... 1st hour or so "dryland" teaching... then lugging the boards etc to the beach then off to the water.
