Teen falls into sewer while texting

Came across this on another board here. What do you think of it?

The teen was texting and not looking where she was going and apparently its not the teens fault.

This was my response there;

While I don't agree with the suing aspect the workers were definitely in violation of OSHA and will probably be fined heavily.
Taking the texting part out of the equation, what if it was a person that had poor eyesight, or a child running down the street.
Point is, the manhole cover should not have been removed prior to cones or barricades being put up. If anything the family should be entitled to having their medical costs covered.

Darwinism WAS at work.....Someone just interfered with it by rescuing her. Instead they should have replaced the manhole cover and went on with their business.

I can't speak for anyone else but that is the funniest thing I have seen in a while. We are a nation of boneheads attached to the outside world by mechanical devises. We no longer know how to interact face to face, just facebook to facebook.

I know it is the way of the world now but I can't help but be concerned as to where it will all end up.

As my Grandmother would say, "Six of one, half dozen of another" I really think both parties are at fault and should split medical bills equally and that should be the end of it. Of course OSHA will fine them, but the family shouldn't get any monetary reward.

Well if a person is so oblivious to their surroundings that they fall into a sewer while texting, what does that say about texting while driving? Kind of obvious where the "attention" was directed..
