Teen DD14 says no to Crocs!

We're going back to WDW in June for our 2nd visit. First time was in 2006 when my DD was 11 and my DS was 8. Our whole family wore Crocs and it was great. Our feet weren't all soggy after getting caught in rain showers or water rides, and we had no blisters or aching feet. Now that we're going back, my DD14 is not so keen on wearing "unfashionable" Crocs. I have tried to tell her that in Disney, lots of people will be wearing them and she won't feel stupid. I even told her she never had to wear them again after vacation. She is still not sure. So, can you tell me if Crocs are still the "thing" to wear at Disney, and if anyone has the Croc flip flops are they just as good to wear? She seems more willing to try those than regular Crocs. :cool2:

Why not just let her wear regular flip flops? They are so cheap at Old-Navy (2 for $5) and come in a huge variety of colors!

I have to say I don't like the way Crocs feel. I also don't like the way they look on me. If she wants to wear other footwear, I would let her. Just make sure that whatever she wears is comfortable.

Crocs are still pretty popular at WDW, but as pixeegrl said the flip flops at Old-Navy are really cheap and really comfortable.

At 14, she should be able to decide what shoes she wants to wear. To note, when we were there in June, didn't see many Croc wearers, but then, I'm not staring at people's feet all day on vacation either!

Good luck!!!
DD14 this past summer (Aug) decided that on our trip to WDW she was not going to wear shorts!!!! She lasted 4 days into the trip wearing black jeans in 100 degree weather. I thought she might pass out and die:eek:

On day number 5 I quietly put 3 pairs of shorts in her bureau drawer that I had brought along in my suitcase from her closet at home. I never said a word. That afternoon out she came in a pair of shorts. Nothing was ever mentioned but I was so glad when she put them on!!;)

Maybe you could just pack a pair and if she chooses to wear them great but if not they are her wet, sweaty, smelly feet:laughing:

I have several pairs of the Croc flip flops and have done both Disney and Hershey with them...they are great...much more support than traditional flip flops...good luck and have fun!

I still see them at Disney a lot, but this weekend my DNephew13 and DNiece16b told me they were very uncool now. They convinced my 5 year old not to wear her pair when we went shopping.

I'm not MAKING her wear Crocs. I think she remembers that they were comfortable and worked well the last time, but this time she is just old enough to be concerned about what people think, and not looking "fashionable". I haven't told her that she couldn't wear flip flops, I think she she already knows that her feet will get very tired in them though. I was just hoping for some positive feedback to help her feel better about wearing them, that she would not feel out of place.

Crocs flip flops are way more comfy than Old Navy (or other traditional) flip flops.

Crocs have SO many different styles now! You're not stuck with the original Beach if you don't want to be (though a new pair is on MY list of must-haves for Disney!).
The new "Olivia" are REALLY cute - like a traditional ballet flat (no 'holes' even).

I'm really thinking about getting these for myself:

The first time I ever saw Crocs was at Disney in December of '06. I was confused as to why so many people were wearing them. When I returned a girl from work had a pair of Disney crocs on and I asked her what the big deal was.. she said, "Try them on, they are soooo comfortable". We decided to go try on shoes at lunch that day and I tried a pair on and was sold. I've been wearing them ever since. ;) We were at DW a couple of weeks ago and the they are still all over the parks.. in fact I noticed them a lot more this time and a lot of people were wearing them.

Having said that, if she doesn't want to wear them, that's okay. It's her comfort level.

Personally, I think they are the most comfortable shoes on the planet. ;)

I would say check out the Crocs Athens. They are a flip flop. I love them. I have done WDW and other places in them and never had a problem. I was even told by a young girl (about 21, young to me I am 38 and mom of 3) in a bar in NYC that my pink and orange flip flops were "hot" LOL.

How about Fit Flops? I wore them for a good chunk of our last trip, and they were super comfortable. They're a little more "fashionable" than crocs. I was even suprised to see them sold at WDW. I think they also sell them at VictoriasSecret. com. (SO they have to be some kind of cool, lol)

I am a huge Crocs fan and a huge flip flop fan, so it seemed the obvious thing for me to do was to get the Crocs flip flops....I hated them. They gave my blisters between my toes. It was awful, I lasted about 2 hours walking around disney with them before I had to buy myself new shoes (which incidentally were mickey crocs! :rotfl:)

I would say let her wear whatever she wants, but bring along a pair of crocs in her size. This way if her feet DO get uncomfortable, she has something to fall back on. There is nothing worse than getting a blister on your first day in the world!

Bring them, but let it be her decision. No matter what you want, she'll want something different so pretend not to care! It works for me most times. She'll get caught up in the magic of Disney, and won't care about what is considered cool at home. Have a blast!!:dance3:

I wear Crocs Cleo to the parks. They offer the same support as the Beach version but not as ugly.

I have the Capri Croc flip flops and love them. I have five different pairs and wear them around the house all the time in addition to going out or at Disney. Never any issues with blisters or rubbing. Now I also puchased the Athens Croc flip flops and absolutely hated them-gave them away. Blisters and rubbing were a problem and probably just me, but they were way too wide and I don't have narrow feet. My 15 year old DD hates the traditional Croc clogs because she says they are embarrassingly ugly. However, she wears the Capri's. She frequently "borrows" mine. If your DD doesn't really want to wear them though, I'd let her choose her own footwear and let it go.

I would just not make a big deal over it. At 14, I would let her decide what shoes she wants to wear. I have some of the flip flops and find them comfy, but I do admit that they are not the most attractive shoes. I can't imagine my 16 year old fashionable daughter being caught dead in them.

show her the croc website and let her pick the flip flop crocs. I see alot of people wearing those.

If flip flops are more her thing, Teva Mush flip flops are AMAZING! Very comfy and lots of fun colors. I never wore flip flops until I got these and I lived in them the week we were at WDW.
