Hi! My dd (13) wants to go into the teen club on our cruise. Will she feel left out if she doesn't know anyone? She's a little shy. She plans on going the first night for the 411.

Hi and welcome to the DISboards

My daughter first went into the teen room when she was 13 and she loved it. If your daughter shows up on the first night there is a good chance that she can find someone to hook up with and hang out with. If it doesn't happen on the first night then encourage her to try again the next day. Not everyone shows up all of the time and maybe there will be someone different there the next day that will suit her.

I am sure that even if she doesn't find anyone to hang around with she will have a great time on the ship.

It has been our family's experience to attend the clubs the first night. A lot of the friendships happen early on. Have you considered asking other DIS members if they have a child in the same age group that can become a pen pal with your daughter beforehand? We have been successful with that on the "Cruise Meets" section of these boards. In any case, I think she'll have a wonderful time. :)

Hey there,
I was 14 when i first went on the disney cruise and I've been again since then (16) and am going again in a week!!!! But back to the point.... she will have no problems at all!!!! When I went ont he first cruise I was nervous about the kinds of people there would be as well. I strongly encourage her to attend the first night 411. It's really good. The counselors are VERY good about getting everyone aquainted with everyone else. Both cruises I found that all the teens inc ommon grounds hung out in a huge group and we had a blast!!!! Let her know, it's nothing to worry about and everyone will make her feel very welcome! Have a blast!!!!!!

I would definately see if anyone on the boards has a 13 year old daughter to e-mail with. We did that with my ds8 and our friends DD13 they both really looked forward to meeting thier online friends. They both developed other friends at the clubs, but it sure made it easier knowing they have a friend onboard already.:sunny:

Hi MagicalFam;
Are you on the June 19th western Magic? If so, your daughter may want to e-mail my daughter, who is also 13 and a little nervous about the clubs and people she'll meet. We can work something out if you'd like, and use our adult e-mail address so we can monitor the messages if you'd like. Thanks,
Kathy:wave2:

Trust me she'll have a blast. The first thing I though when I was 13 and went there was it would be a bunch of 17 year olds and I wouldn't get along with but it was a real diversity in age and I usually do get along with slightly older people being that I'm the youngest in my High School class of 163. (September B-Day)

My daughter is looking for otherCRUISERS Aug 28 MAGIC She is 15 looks like 18. I dont think she will have trouble making friends, but she wanted to chat with others before hand.
If you have a son or daughter that is going on the same cruise.. Please let me know

DD 13, is not shy was excited about going to the Stack on our last cruise . She & a 16 yr. old table mate went up the first night for the 411. They felt most of the kids acted like jerks & the activities were a bid childish, but they are a little bit more mature for their age than some. They hung out the entire cruise together & had a blast, so it was fine in the end. She just wasn't pleased with the types of kids in there. Everyone was try to impress everyone else- very phony... that got old real quick with her.

We were in Mickey Mates one day & this 15 or 16 yr. old kid was having a snitty fit like a toddler over something his parents refused to buy. My DD turned to me & said. Oh, that's "Mr. Big Shot" from the Stack. Isn't he impressive Mom? LOL!! I can see why she didn't stay if they were like him... If there is a good group of kids onboard I would think it would be fun.

My daughter is 13 also and we'll be on the JULY 31 MAGIC/WESTERN CRUISE. Anyone else on that cruise? No 13 y/o DD's have posted yet on the 7/31 roll call. :(

Hi Reenie!! :wave2:

My 2 DSs are 16 and 13, and as you know will be on the same cruise! :) Let me know if she's interested in chatting with them beforehand. I'd love for my sons to get to know some of the kids on our cruise before we sail.

Ditto on checking in on the first night. They have a meet and greet and she will know right away if she will feel comfortable.

However, when we went on our first cruise, my daughter had just turned 13. When she went to the teen club, she felt very out of place and shy. The next day we took her to the Oceaneer's Club and explained the situation and they welcomed her with open arms. She loved it there. On our last cruise, when she was 15, she went back to the teen club and we never saw her for the whole cruise. It was quite special though because she showed up at our door one night with two "friends" in tow and they wanted us to go see "Tuck Everlasting"in the movies that night with them. We had a blast.

DCL will do everything they can to make your child feel comfortable!

Hello Seapspray,
My daughter saw that your sons are right across from us. I also, have an 11 yr old son. He plans on being at the Oceaner lab all week.
My daughter uses AIM, do you? Maybe they can chat a few times. This is my kids first cruise... They are really looking forward to this. There has to be more kids on board... they just don't know about this board.
Talk to you soon.
