TED is the long cost portion of United. The aircraft are one cabin aircraft, ie with no business/first class. There is an Economy Plus section with seating reserved for elite members. Others can 'upgrade' to E+ for a cost.
TED flights are usually to sun destinations or tourist destinations, and every TED flight I fly is packed (as are most United flights).
Flights of 4 hours or more have a buy on board option - either a fresh meal option or a box - see www.united.com for more details.
I am extremely loyal to United based on how they treat their most frequent flyers; your experience as an infrequent flyer may vary from mine.
We flew TED from BWI to MCO last October. Smooth, on-time flights and we would definitely fly them again. DH hates Southwest and TED had the best prices and times for our dates. Our planes were not crowded and it was Columbus Day weekend.
I have used Ted to MCO for the past 5 trips. Always on time and a good experience. Prices are always good and they have times I prefer, early morning and late night flights.
Thay are my airline of choice for MCO. Using them for my trip in 7 days
We flew Ted earlier this year from DEN-MCO and back. Nothing remarkable to report either way. Both flights were on time (despite some snow in DEN) and loads were close to full but not quite 100%. The only thing odd that we noticed was that they showed video programming on the outbound flight but not the return. Not quite sure why we didn't get a video program on the return as it was a bit longer of a flight than the outbound, but it wasn't a big deal.
Everyone has assigned seating is another plus. We fly to WDW 4 trips a year out of Wash. DC/Dulles. We have been flying with them for all trips lately. We were using FlyI, but they left and we went back to Ted. While they seldom have great sales like SW, I still choose them for the assigned seating, they are a participating airline for resort check in so we check our bags and don't see them again until we get to Dulles on our return flight. And when we flew them 2 weeks ago, they now have another new perk.....you check your luggage online now when you print your boarding pass. Then when you get to Dulles (not sure who else participates) you go to the luggage check in counters and they tag your luggage for you. We used this for the first time 2 weeks ago and the wait was about 1 minute. They are pretty good about their schedules too. The only bad time is during the summer evenings, but that is the same for all airlines. When the Florida storms come in, everything gets delayed.

If you're flying out of Dulles, the new luggage checkin perk might be of interest to you if you're checking your luggage. We used it 2 weeks ago and it worked great. There's info on their website.
TED must be having a sale. While there sales are not as great as SW, I still love the perks of flying them -- resort checkin, assigned seating, ff miles fast approaching 50,000. I looked at my fare of Oct and the rt price is down to $169. That is a good price out of Dulles to MCO, so I booked it. I never book this early, but getting the idea times (8:00A down and 6:30PM home) and on a non-stop is worth it! They had this price for December too.
I booked early as well because the perfect arrival and departure times were available. 8AM departure from ORD (Chicago) and 7:40PM departure from MCO on the day we return back to Chicago.
