Technology Has Passed Me By

we aren't shutterbugs. several years back, my wife & i got our first digital cameras. i got a nikon coolpix 2200 (2 megapixel, 3x optical zoom) because i wanted something to fit in my shirt pocket; she got kodak easyshare dx6490 (4 megapixel, 10x optical zoom) because she wanted a good zoom. we don't use them very often, mostly when we travel. for our upcoming trip, she doesn't want to carry hers around. i know hers takes a lot better pictures than mine, but it's bigger and heavier and i don't think i want to carry it around the parks. i'm sure there are probably better options available now for a reasonable price. should i buy a new one, do you think? i need easy to use and remember settings. any suggestions welcome!

based on what you said, you should go to your local Best Buy or camera shop and play with the cameras that you seem to like. Ask for the differences between them. Play and see which one feels good to you. Do not buy on the first trip. Take several trips and play again.

Without knowing a budget pick those in your price range.

Most current cameras would do most of what you want.

check out this link and scroll down to the bottom couple. then you can narrow it down by reading the ones that sound like your price range or size or zoom or what ever is most important to you http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html it's a good idea to then go someplace and play with the few that sound best to you but personally i've usually found the people in big box type stores don't know a whole lot so i'd go with a few previously chosen options in mind and don't let them talk you into something that they just want to sell.
