OK-if anyone is knowledgeable with metadata, please read.....

After playing with MM all weekend I have run into this problem.
MM is so easy to use but I have this fear. I had a picture program I used for years and when Vista came out it would no longer work on Vista and the company is not updating it. So all my work is now lost and I need to do it all over again.

The Tell your story field is the IPTC caption field in other programs like ACDSE and PSE. If you already have words in the iptc caption it will carry over to Memory Manager.

Because MM stores "copies" of your pictures with all the hard work you put into them of telling your story, naming etc. it does NOT save the IPTC( or "tell your story area" ) info directly into your original file.

No offense, BUT, if CM goes out of business and years down the road the new version of windows decides MM is not compatible, there goes all you hard work.

It's much less likely ADOBE will go out of business so your time in inputting all the story and info is much safer in PSE.

Has anyone figured this out and if so, have you figured a way to save the file info directly back to the original picture when working with MM?

Doreen,

I have forwarded your email on to tech support for Creative Memories. I think you have some very valid questions and concerns. I have thought about where that information goes and how do we access it. After reading your email and your mention of IPTC, I did a google search to find out what this is all about. After reading a few sites and starting to understand a little bit. Here is what I did.

Went to MY Computer (computer on Vista)
went to the folder that has my Memory Vault, in the vault is a folder called Items, there are lots of folders there
I randomly opened one folder and choose a photo to test, right clicked on the photo and choose Properties.
opened my Memory Manager and found the same test photo
I double checked the Name box data and added to tell the story "playing softball 1988"
I closed out the folder and reopened it, there was not change to the data in the properties
I then closed out memory manager, it saved it's data and updated the vault
Re-opened Memory Manager, found the same test photo
Re-opened My Computer, then my Memory Vault and the correct folder. right clicked on the photo and ALL my name box data and tell the story data WERE there.
So I feel very relieved to know that the information IS being saved with my pictures in my memory vault. Even if Memory Manager is not around I can get into ALL my photos, the meta data is there. I am very happy to have learned this information and thank you for spurring me on to learn.

As soon as I hear back for tech support on my email, I will forward the email back to you. Will you let me know if this information was helpful for you and if I explained it ok?

Cathie
